Elad USA Support

Paul Jones

Hi All,

Just a quick note, it may be possible that support may not be available from late Tuesday night through next weekend due to Hurricane Dorian, it’s too early to tell exact track, but it looks like it will skim the SC coast, I’m about 35 miles inland, outside the evacuation zones (just) but we may loose cell service, our means of support. We are not leaving due to family issues, if cell service goes out we should still have email, so you can contact us that way.

I’ll keep you all updated as time goes on, but again Storm (cat2 by that time) is expected off the coast by Wednesday morning/afternoon

If there are major power outages, we will be ok as we have a full backup generator that cuts on in 20secs

Re: ASW-1 antenna

Do answer John's original question - NO with the ASW you can not listen to a station on both the HF transceiver and the SDR.  I just bought one and was planning on using it to add a panadapter to an HF transceiver and also to use it as a second receiver.  The ASW only connects the antenna to the HF transceiver on transmit.  On receive the antenna is only connected to the SDR.  I should have read the manual more carefully before I bought the ASW.  It doesn't work for my application.

Hi Don,

You might want to look at the MFJ 1708B SDR box. In the receive mode, it splits the receive signal between your main transceiver and your SDR receiver.  There will be a 3 db signal loss to each receiver.  In the transmit mode, the transceiver TX signal is connected to the main antenna.

https://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-1708B-SDR

Note:  The original MFJ-1708 model is not recommended because of RF isolation issues.

Clint,

Thanks for the information.  I am familiar with the MFJ unit.  The reason I tried the ASW was that it provided audio muting on TX while the MFJ does not.  The MFJ does provide and output that could be used with an external relay for muting.

I ended up keeping my homebrew RX/TX switch, which is very similar to the MFJ and then using the ASW for audio muting only.

Re: Thinking of selling FDM-S2 and getting DUO-R

I bought one, £599 :-D Bonus! Won't get to play with it as I'm away from home at work and it arrived 3 hrs after I left for work. Can't wait to try it and see how it is to use.

I was hearing 590 VOCM clearly and other transatlantics on my home antennas at 0545 this morning. I'm glad I did my antenna maintenance.

Elad ART Remote Windows 64 bit

Jay Hoppe

Edited

I have tried to get this to work but have had no successes.
When I start the program using start.bat all I get is a small square window .
Has any one had any luck with this.

This what I have found the 32 Bit version works.
looking at the 64 bit version the bat files are calling the opt dir and it does not exist.

Reset Icon ART 60

I use the ART 60 PA with the DUO  works fine as you would expect ..but the reset Icon on the ART comes on most times during transmit.
It does not effect the operation of the setup when transmitting  but just wanted to know if it is something I need to check....
or is it just a software glitch ?
Just to say DUO X is a definite purchase ..may put my order in to ML&S  now !!!

Hello Jay.

I've asked the audience several questions about ELAD remote without getting any answers. I believe few people try to use it and I now understand a possible reason.

IMHO Elad Remote is a WIP (Work In Progress).

Getting ELAD Remote to work took me many attempts and failure. I finally had tech assist from Elad and got it working.

Now I have to wonder why I even bothered.

Once working I discovered and was assured that ELAD Remote was not planned as a means of getting ELAD SW2 to work remotely, and those plans are long in the future if maybe.

So using DUO/ART120 remotely for ham radio contacts as I think of a remote control transceiver is not in the cards anytime soon.

I resolves remote control of the DUO/ART120 using TeamViewer as described in this month's QST.

Simple and easy.

Well I found the fix for the 64 bit version you have to place a folder called opt in the c:\cygwin64 folder and then move EladRemote folder into the opt folder.

New (to me) Duo-R - any tips please?

Shaun Vincent Hopkins

Hello all,

I got a Duo-R for a very good price second hand. Any top tips please? I will be taking on my travels. I've already bought the psu. Did a remote power up via the XYL.

Does anyone have any experience of the filter boards and are they worth fitting?

Hi Jay,
sorry to read only now your posts: unfortunately I was sick in a clinic for a bad infection.
Happy to see you've been able to solve the issue.
Now I've replaced the old, and wrong, Win64EladRemote.zip zipfile with a one with the correct /opt filder and EladRemote folder moved in it.
Thanks a lot fou your contribute,

Hi Hoppy,

I believe it is relatively rare for DUOr users to provide pre-filters and to configure the filter slots accordingly.
A BP filter wall is not required to suppress IM ghosts appearing here and there, while it is pressing necessity for many other brands.

Still, there can be some advantages to really do populate the free filter card slots.
I've been very pleased listening to AM around 6 MHz, using a 500 KHz BP filter
Static crashes keep happening, but the background will get cleaner.
The waterfall will also get noticeable darker, assuming the default color scheme is used, that is.

If you would be interested in experimenting with a 500 KHz filter for your own favorite frequency range and have some instruments, there are two designs approaches available:

  • The ELAD B3 design with hand wound toroids, based on the ELAD ham band cards
  • An original Butterworth or Chebyshev design utilizing the B3 card, but strictly with uncoupled SMD low profile inductors including shielding
At this time, I am not aware of any filter related application notes from ELAD, aside from the filter slot configuration, that is.
Obviously, the filters have been designed by a skilled circuit designer, but the design rules have never been disclosed in any way.

Best regards,
Anders H.

Re: New (to me) Duo-R - any tips please?

Hi Anders,

That sounds promising and thank you, it gives me somewhere to start from! I'm not very good at electronics I never really invested my time in it. I can solder and make coaxes and basic circuits but filters? I'll buy one :-)

I bought a univeral 12v psu from Amazon just to test it - rubbish. Zozo universal 12v psu. It worked ok on really strong channels, it's now in the bin. I fished out a US spec 12v PSU for a NAS drive and plugged that in and voila! Lovely quiet MW bands.

I'll have to get used to the Elad SW2 software now, I preferred the SDR console interface. I usually use Jaguar pro for my Perseus.
