I want to use my Heil microphones with the FDM-DUO. I built a small preamp to change the Heil level to what  the FDM-DUO requires.
The audio report that I get are superb with the supplied hand mic, but I really don’t want to buy another headset or desk mic when I already have them.
IIRC, I needed to add about 20 dB for this to work.
How much current can I safely draw from this connection?
While I certainly could simply add a battery to the adapter box that I will need, it would certainly be more convenient to simply use the available 8v power connection.
Thanks

Sorry Steve, the original question in the thread was about upgrading the DUO, so I thought you were asking about SW2 with a DUO. I guess you are using an S2?

SW2 v1.150 is the SW2 version you need.  1.96 is *extremely* old, and it is best to remove all of your settings by deleting the contents of c:\users\<yourname>\ELAD\FDM-SW2 folder, then just get the upgraded software from the 1.150 folder on http://sdr.eladit.com/FDM-sw2%20Software/index.php?lang=EN

Up to you whether to use the full install pack, I would be tempted to delete the folder above, then uninstall the existing version of SW2, then use the full install pack. Just to be totally clear, if you don't delete that folder, thing will go horribly wrong, even if you do an uninstall.  If you want to be super-careful, take a backup copy of the whole of the folder and save it somewhere just in case.  You will lose all of your customised settings, so it would be good to make notes of anything you have set up differently from the default.

You can find the changelog for what has been improved at http://sdr.eladit.com/FDM-sw2%20Software/1_150_Beta_FDM-SW2-complete_setup/RELEASE_web.txt

Can any other S2 users add any advice to Steve about going from 1.96 to 1.150?

In there, you will see that the current release of SW2 is 1.150. Version 1.158 (not 1.58) is a special version for the S3, but it probably won't do any harm.  I'm sticking with 1.150 until there is a formal release in the release PDF above.  You will also see the full change history for what is fixed/added at each release.

Not sure where you are seeing the "3.0" version.  Safest way to be totally sure is to go to menu 82 on the DUO, and there you can select each of the firmware types by turning the E2 knob.  On mine, I have UI 4.65, FGA 02.00, USB 4.09, RX 1.31 and TX 1.28. What does your DUO show for those items on Menu 82? My UI and RX versions are out of date according to the list, so I will need to update them very soon.

All of the firmware you need is in the folders at http://sdr.eladit.com/FDM-DUO/Firmware%20Releases/index.php?lang=EN

It is vitally important that you read the manual before starting the upgrades.  The process is simple, but there are quite a few steps and you need to make sure you have read every word in the firmware upgrade manual at at http://sdr.eladit.com/FDM-DUO/ELAD%20FDM-DUO%20-%20Firmware%20Update%20v1.0%20EN%20-%20Firmware%20Update.pdf, and you need to install the flash upgrader program before starting.  You also need the micro USB lead which came with the DUO, and a suitable memory stick on which to save the firmware.

I've done this process about eight times on both of my DUOs, and I always have a printed copy of the update manual pages so I don't miss any steps.  It just works so long as you follow the instructions.

Hello Michael,

Im not sure if understood your question?  Although if you mean to update your software to the most recent software,  first check your current software version.

Open the SW2 and click on setup, click on about and it should show you your version and firmware.

The current software version is 1.58 beta. Firmware is version 4.9.

If needed Then go to the website and download the most recent version.

I hope this helps good luck.

To solve that problem I used an adapter plug (male into FDM Duo with two RCA female. RCA cords go to the QSF-06 and other to Hard rock 50 watt amp.

I would like to use the RF out port on the FDM-DUO to feed a 4W amp for 630M and then feed that amp back into the QSF-06 which is equipped with the 500khz LPF.  This would simplify the relay switching of the amp and add another level of filtering to the system.

Is there a maximum power rating for the QSF-06 and filters above the rated output of the FDM-DUO?  I do not see anything in the manual.

I have been trying to do some diagnostics with this program as it provides useful info.

Also, I'm wondering if the unpredictability of the problems might be related to ground-loops on the usb?

Hello Jan.  I have had my DUO for approx 3 years now.  I experienced the same start-up problem when I first received the DUO.  I have found that if I turn on the computer/laptop first, and after the computer has completely booted up, that my DUO will start-up, and transmit without any issues or problems.  This works for me, your set-up may not work the same way due to differences in the way your computer is set up.

THANKS everyone for the Feedback.
I have found that If I disconnect the CAT cable ~  USB FT-232B UART  ~  from the Fdm-Duo it starts up fine every time

Re: Error code coming up on FDM-DuoR

Hi Jonathan,

Did you resolve this issue?  I currently get a "wrongfpga" message every time I turn on my FDM-DUO.  I just press the large tuning knob once and the message goes away.
Otherwise, everything is working perfectly - just strange that I get this error message when I turn on the radio.

Best,
Jeff

Hello Dennis,

This is the setup that works for me.

FDM-DUO is in stand-alone mode, SW2 software is NOT running. I get errors when running MMTTY under SW2...

TX tab:

Radio command:

This is optional! If you want MMTTY to display the correct frequency, you should use the Kenwood protocol.
If not, select NONE in the Group drop down menu.

SoundCard tab:

When in stand alone mode, the DUO uses the Kenwood command set. When under SW2 control, you should use the Yaesu FT-897 command set.
But as stated above, I have issues using MMTTY + SW2.

Good luck!

Thanks Bob,

I have tried it both ways, but can't get either one to work. At lease knowing to use USB will eliminate one variable. Next week is fine with me. Have a good trip.
