What about a 29” 21:9 2560 X 1080? Isn’t there a tradeoff between a larger screen and less resolution? What about aspect ration. Your additional thoughts on monitors would be interesting to hear.

Re: Elad S2

Hi Ed,
With n1mm+, you can run mmtty for rtty and fldigi for psk and other modes.
As you suggested, these run off a virtual port created by vspe.
I would like to be able to run hrd in this configuration, but have not tried it. My current hrd use is through a us navigator interface. It uses the rs232 of the ftdx3000, which negates using the usb port.
In my n1mm+ configuration, i use vspe to create 2 virtual ports: one for omnirig and one for cat control of the radio. This seems to work well, but i currently have an rf problem with the keyboard which i have not solved.
Maybe, as you stated, hrd will create a way to implememt sdrs. I wouldn't hold my breath though. At dayton, they stated an upcoming mod would implement jt65. If this is current, they must have struck a deal with the author of jt65. If not, their effort might get stopped.
Nice to hear from you again.

Edward S. Clark IV <edclarkiv1@...>

I have almost the exact same setup. Radio, computer...(Mac i7 Bootcamp) fully updated Win 10.... everything. And my experiences are the same. The only difference is that Omni-Rig has developed some quirks, but works most of the time. And while on Omni-Rig... I like what it's concept is but I find it slow and clunky to the host software when tuning or changing frequency, clicking or VFO. There are times it actually fights the VFO tuning.

I'd love to see a HRD IP Rig control IP server option. I know that would make things smoother and easier here in several ways. Then I'd use the ELAD software more than I do. It's either ELAD-SW2 or HRD. Unless I want to resort to serial splitting software. That introduces its own hassles and some potential instabilities.

If it's a matter of HRD API... we'll that's been an issue. The publicly posted HRD IP API was for HRD v4.0 and was so incorrect even a highly skilled programmer wouldn't have figured it out. Doing research for a personal project I think I rounded up enough information on HRD v6.0 IP Server for a moderately skilled programmer can figure it out.

Then there's the current state of HRD. I've have a brief email exchange with the new managing ownership about the fact that the currently provided IP Server API is incorrect. Also about how important an accurate API is to the business of HRD. He expressed agreement but did not promise anything. But I expect something will be done about it.

Thanks,

Ed

Hello Richard:

I am Ruben EA5BZ from Spain.
My main use of SDR is DX with my HR transceiver.
I have tested a lot of SDR receivers and for me FDM-S2 is the choice.
Yes... Software has some little bugs, but Elad is working very hard on it and i am sure soon will be released a new version with them solved.

You are right, there is an issue.
I just observed an entry with a closing time of 1005 UTC (which I explicitely created). It did not disappear at all! It is now 1015 UTC as I write this and it is still there.
I have to go into Settings and click Apply. Then the list is updated and the entry disappears.
Then I created an entry with a starting time of 1020 UTC. It did not appear at all after 1020 UTC! I had to apply the settings again to make the entry visible.
I am not sure if this is what is desired.

Thank you!

It's 1920x1048 on a 27" LG. I've been tempted to get a 2nd monitor on the main machine here. Maybe a 32" curved? LOL

I find this layout more "comfortable" since all my years as an RF engineer, the IF window is of more interest to me than the Spectral view. That's just me.I had to practice resizing the windows alot at first since SW2 doesn't allow you to resize from any window edge so the resize tab had to remain visible at all times while I experimented!

I own 4, 2x S1s & 2x S2s...
I have dealt with Franco on software issues, which were fixed in a couple weeks, not months or years [like thePerseus]
I have dealt with the US office for parts, who were very, very cordial...

Remember, people only post reviews or to groups with problems. No different than reading Amazon reviews...

This group itself has become a great resource & a brotherhood, not just a mere list...

The Elad S2 [even the S1] is a fantastic device that is compatible with multiple software packages.

After 4 years, I look back on buying my first Elad & wonder why I didn't sell my Perseus sooner

Glad to help, even if totally by accident.  If you do upgrade to a more recent version, save that ELAD\FDM_SW2 directory in case you need to restore!  My problems were fixed 100% by creating and saving profiles.  Not wishing to teach the developers how to code (I've only been coding since 1972, what do I know?) but it might help a lot if the unhandled exceptions were caught and the actual issue reported to the user and logged to an error file, rather than just a generic unhandled exception error like "too small or large for a uint_32".

Might make faultfinding a whole lot easier.  Another option might be to write an XML parser for the ini files and do bounds-checking to identify any variables that are out of range.  That would need access to the variable schema and ranges though.  A difftool would be a lot simpler, but it would need to be able to handle proper XML tree parsing.

Re: Windows 10 update

So, Neil gave a great suggestion to another person about problem solving by removing cables and trying stand alone.   After unloading and loading and starting over, his suggestions to disconnect the USBs gave me enough of a knock on the head to try starting SW2 without the radio in offline mode.  That took the radio out of the equation and I was still getting the unhandled exception error.  I ended up removing the new Beta and reinstalling the 1.47 Beta.  Now the software is happy, and it is controlling the radio just fine.  I know others have success with Beta 1.5 and Windows 10, but reverting back to the previous version seemed to handle the problem.  Thanks Neil!  73, John K0FTC
