CW Transmit configuration in SW2

cristorcelli@...

I need help configuring CW transmit in SW2.

Specifically, when operating SW2 software, what is the configuration needed in order to hear (monitor) the transmitted CW characters through the headset when the headset is configured to be the audio device plugged ito the computer?

Long shot here, but does anyone in the group know of an adapter that can be used for the Heil Pro Headset for the FDM-DUO ?

I have found several for the big name radios, but nothing for the DUO.

Hi Charlie, on Set->Audio there is a tickbox for Mute on TX or CAT keyed status which is normally checked.  If you untick that, you get sidetone.  HOWEVER...  you also get the processing delay, so the CW you hear is about 200ms behind what you are sending, and you also get to hear your transmitted voice on SSB, again delayed by 200ms.  I find it completely impossible to use except when I am using computer-keyboard CW.

It ought to be possible to feed sidetone into the soundcard for direct output, but I just use a little analog audio mixer with the sidetone from my external keyer mixed in to the soundcard output.

Need some help in configuring SW2 so i hear transmitted CW characters.

In standalone mode, I have the configuration correct. I have Setting# 8 set to of so I can hear when I transmit.

When I activate SW2, and set the output speakers to the computer, I hear received signals in the headphones plugged into the computer.

But nothing I do allows me to hear the side-tones of my  transmitted CW characters in the headphones.

What is the sequence of settings to make that happen?

Hi Ken, I made up an adaptor for my Pro-7 using a 3.5mm mono inline socket for the mic lead of my existing Kenwood, then used a short end cut off a piece of shielded Cat6 network patch lead with an RJ45.  I added a 1/4 inch in-line socket for the PTT footswitch.  As I use an HC-5 insert, I added a 4.7uF tantalum cap and set the boost to +12dB.  That would not be required with the Heil Icom electret insert of course.

I slipped some glue-lined heatshrink sleeving over the joints and they have been in use for some time with no issues.

popping noise in audio with FDM-SW2

Allen Grimsley

I have popping noise in my computer audio when using FDM-SW2. This is most noticeable  when listening to AM stations in AM, SSB, SAM or ECSS modes. Running  FDM-SW2 Ver 1.147 Beta, but this has been a problem running earlier versions as well. Running Windows 10 with an HP computer that has enough CPU capacity to run at <10% usage rate so that is not the issue. Any ideas?

Re: HC-05 Bluetooth chip stuck in Programming mode.... (Blue DUO)

Chet Roberts

OK, thanks to fellow ham and FDM-DUO user Dave Kennett's suggestion, I have a resolution to my problem!
This HC-05 module appears to operate differently than other HC-05 modules I have purchased.
With this version of the HC-05:
1) There is no flashing blue LED by the antenna end
2) It automatically goes into Programming mode when a wire is attached to the EN pin on the chip.
When the wire is removed from EN pin, the module goes into Operate mode.
I was then able to find the BLUEDUO signal on my Android device.
This info may be useful info for others....

DxLauncher

Hi Group.

Would like to scan frequencies that Multipsk provides using my Elad FDM-SW2 SDR with Commander from DXLauncher197. Receiving only. Using Yaesu FT897 CAT to control the SW2 on Com port pairs 3 and 4.

Multipsk shows Connected into Commander. Under QRGs in Multipsk clicking on a frequency the Commander VFO correctly changes to the frequency that is in database.

So my problem is how do I sent the CAT command to the SW2 to change frequencies from Multipsk via Commander?

Thank you for your interest.

HC-05 Bluetooth chip stuck in Programming mode.... (Blue DUO)

Chet Roberts

I wanted to program a couple more HC-05 Bluetooth chips for some fellow hams, but unlike my earlier purchases, these chips start in Programming mode (slow flashing red LED) and I cannot figure out how to get them into OPERATE mode.  These are the chips that have the tiny microswitch on the board.
I'm using a Raspberry Pi running Cutecom to do the programming.
Thoughts?

Error code coming up on FDM-DuoR

jonathan wood

Hello,I  have just got a new FDM Duo-R and have been running it successfully for 5 to 10 mins, listening to a local station,  when it cut out and the following appeared on the screen: "WRONGF PGA" (I wonder if it means wrong FPGA, but the message is as I've presented it.) The receiver is connected to a DiaMec sealed rechargable battery, which is reading 12.3v. There is no audio at all. Any suggestions gratefully received! Jonathan.

Re: Most current, stable, SW2 release???

Neil Smith G4DBN

1.144 seems to be the most reliable recent release, is there a general consensus that this is the one to use for production use? I am on 147 and there are some rough edges with lockups using SET in particular, but I'm happy to work around them in order to help the product develop. I had a weird event last night when setting a CW split TX by clicking on the yellow TX, the rig jumped from 14MHz to 28MHz and I lost the 14MHz red channel completely. I can't reproduce the fault, so I'll blame it on Microsoft for now.

The lockup and screen flashing when I do a save within SET is annoying, particularly during a contest, but I'm not going back to 1.144 just because of that.

+1 agreed, I'd rather have a stable version that doesn't keep crashing.

Recording rate .

At any given bandwidth, say, 1536(1229), are there any settings to change the "resolution" of the data stream being written to the hard drive? Right now I'm getting about 30GB / hr disk usage. Is there a way of reducing that, other than reducing the receive bandwidth?

Hi Alberto,

I am not mixing E1 with E2. I am aware of how to adjust aux volume using E2. However in the past I was able to (upon start up) click E1 three times and an Aux volume control came up and could be adjusted by turning the dial. That function went away and I wonder how to get it back.

Audio recording volume low

Neil Smith G4DBN

I am recording CW in 100Hz bandwidth, using the audio recording option, but the volume when I open the WAV in Audacity is at about -25dBm. Is there an adjustment for this within SW2 or is it something I need to change in the Windows sound devices?

FDM-DUO config for Winlink/Winmore?

engineer1@...

Has anyone tried to configure the FDM-DUO for Winlink/Winmor operations.  I'm trying to use a Windows 10 system where FDM-SW2 seems to be working properly.  I am having zero luck at getting anything to work.  I am pretty new to the radio and still learning.
Thanks for any help - Will - N7IPY
