Speaking of which, I posted a 17 part AVI in Alt.binaries.pictures.rail this
weekend which included 12 getting parked after dumping her fire. Anyone
catch the collection? (Big - about 7 megabytes)

From what I understand, Carrlotte Electric Train was closed by the building
owner for many months of unpaid rent. The feds, state, and local
governments have liens for back taxes. The store is permanently closed.
As for No. 12, from what I am told it is a tossup as to which will be
finished first, No. 12 or the disney engine. management wants 12 back on
asap so that will probably influence the decision.
I have asked for a special run on the saturday evening of Sept 11.
management is supposed to confirm that date Monday and an announcement will
be in the next newsletter, hopefully in about 2 weeks, but will be announced
here more quickly.

The tubes are in and all she needs is to pass the hydro and have the
smokebox goodies put back in place and she is ready to ride! Probably be
ready this coming week.

I was in Charlotte last week and went by the Charlotte Electric Train
Center. That little guy that owns it was in there moving around but it was
all locked up. The gal in the store next door said that he had been closed
for six weeks and she was having ot deal with everybody who had electric
trains in there to be fixed that couldn't get them back. Anybody know the
deal??

Re: Fw: Fw: EBT and the FRA

johnny graybeal <johnnyg@...>

Sir,
I have spoken with Chris Robbins not 2 weeks ago about just such a
possibility. Mr. Robbins stated specificially that the car will be kept (in
good shape) for special occasions. The possibility of the car returning to
EBT at this point is slim to none. It has been suggested, and turned down.
Only real money would take that car away right now, and who at EBT has real,
ie not donation, money available.
I will stay on top of the situation and if there is any change, I will put
in a word for the EBT possibility.
Repeat- The coach 5 will not be leaving TRR any year soon.

Attn: Mr. Reggie Arford

Dear Reggie:

Many thanks for your many recent e-mails concerning the status EBT
coach
No. 5.

I talked with Mr. Lee Riley, a member of the ET&WNC Historical
Society
last week, and he heard that the car was going to Spencer Shops for
restoration work. This is not surprising, as the Tweetsie combine
is
currently at Spencer being refurbished. This information is
second-hand,
and should not be interpreted as gospel.

Any EBT-related material you can send will be gladly added to our

Frank Coffey has told me that the coach will be taken out of service once the
open air car is ready for service, but he is not aware of any plans for its
disposition, other than its underframe, couplers, and trucks, might be kept
for parts by the TRR.

I only have about ten of the issues available. I sell them for $3.50 each.
If you are interested I'll get them out and list them.
I've got a few holes in my collection, too. I'd like to see the list.

Thanks,

Hey Chris:

I live in Richmond and have what I think is a complete set of Stemwinders. If
your passing through sometime, let me know and I can make them available for
your review. I can then make copies of those you are most interested in.

If those listed are the only ones, I can make copies and forward them to you yet
this week.

Tuhr Barnes.

New web site

Jim King <jking@...>

Hi all,

My web site is still under construction by Chris Cardinal but there are
now a few photos up. Go to www.catskillarts.com/smmw and tag HOn3 and
On3 pages. No other pix are available yet but it's coming along. The
price list is also missing, so if your interested in getting some of
what you see, contact me off list.

For the On30ers reading this, I offer the On3 ET flat car without
trucks, couplers and decals. You can supply your own t/c/d and have a
high quality, unique flat car for your collection at $49 for the basic
kit (plus shipping).

I'll keep everyone posted as the web site approached completion.

Regards,
Jim King

We will be on the tour in 2000. I wrote in the Stemwinder on the
conversion - it is not extremely accurate to anything, but looks good.
I'll look it up and see how to send it to you.

Re: ET models - clean basement

Tuhr.Barnes@...

Hey Les,

Could you or someone else on-line expound on the SP Ten Wheeler to ET
conversion? I.E. what ET number would the SP loco be closest to, etc?
I had never even considered there might be a conversion here. My
loss I suppose!

I model in Sn3 and Railmaster recently came out with a SP Ten Wheeler
kit. They are very helpful folks and will even substitute different
tenders and other parts like capped stacks and such, on request and at
no charge. This could be dangerous.

Are you planning to be on the convention layout tour in 2000? I hope
to make the convention and would love an opportunity to see what you
have done.

Thanks, Tuhr Barnes

IMHO, the only really good looking track is Railcraft. Ties are random
length, the spikes are prototype size. They make code 55, and 70 and make
dual gauge. They have code 55 #6 turnouts in narrow gauge.
Come see our layout in St. Louis at the 2000 National Narrow Gauge
convention and see their products - we have 55 and 70. Dual and standard
and narrow gauge, turnouts. Even their G scale code 250 for our floor G
scale Tweetsie stuff.
I converted a RGS 4-6-0 to make a decent ET 10 wheeler. I'm instructed
that the SP ten wheeler is better but the tender is all wrong.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions about materials for my new layout.

I'm considering using Woodland Scenics Subterrain system for the scenery.
Does anyone have any real world experience with this system?

An article in Model Railroader suggested getting all the ceiling and
backdrop work in before building the frame. On that note I made some skys
that I'll print on a translucent material and backlight. I hope that this
will eliminate tree shadows on the sky. Here are a couple of samples.
http://jefferson.village.virginia.edu/~cj8n/sky/ These are best viewed on a
monitor with 24bit or True color.

Take care,
