My name is Tom Farmer and I have just joined the ET&WNC discussion group. I
am a native North Carolinian now living in Rome,Georgia. I became interested
in Narrow Gauge Railroading on a trip to the Cumbres & Toltec approximately 5
years ago. After reading Hilton's American Narrow Gauge Railroads book
(this, by the way, is an excellent resource and a fascinating read including
the part where the ET&WNC almost purchased simple Mallets similar to those
originally on the Uintah), I became interested in Tweetsie and named my
fledgling and as yet trackless HOn3 model railroad the Cranberry and
Stemwinder.
My wife and I were vacationing in Valle Crucis last week and we passed a road
called "Old Tweetsie" off highway 105 that must have been the roadbed near
Shulls Mill. Unfortunately, it was marked "private" but a little driving
elsewhere did turn up what I thought was roadbed curving from Elk Park
towards Cranberry and I now realize that the 19e highway through Elk Park is
probably on the old right of way. What a spectacular ride the original
Tweetsie must have been. If only some of it could have been saved the way
some of the D&RGW was, I am certain that it would have been a popular
attraction.
I look forward to discussions. Thanks for letting me in!

More HO items for sale

Jim King <jking@...>

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone, even the O-scalers, that contacted me and bought
quite a bit of my "first round" offerings. I've since found a small box
of more rolling stock and have included it on the latest list. All
items that were sold are removed from the current list. If you would
like an updated list emailed to you, please contact me off list. Items
remaining after your final review will be sold en masse on ebay (I
hope!).

Thanks,
Jim King

Lists,

Rumors have surfaced that the narrow gauge
operations on the C&TS are in
operating and/or financial trouble. This is the
same line that wrecked
a 2-8-2 while plowing snow early this year. Does
anyone have an email
address for the group that follows C&TS, etc.?

Jim
A good place to start is:

http://ctsfriends.railfan.net/

The father of a business associate is past-GM of the C&TSRR. I saw the
son recently. While I heard the story about the wrecked Mike and the
management decision that led to the wreck (let's save some money by not
using two engines to push the rotary - let's just use one with a plow)
I didn't hear anything from the son that led me to believe they were
having financial problems (the father still lives in Chama.)

Bachmann On30

William C. Oram <wcoram@...>

Would the Bachmann On30 converted to On3 be close to Linville River RR? Is the LInville River engine a 2-6-0? It's hard to tell in the "Tweetsie Country" book. Does any one have any Bachmann engines
for sale?

Tweetsie List,

What were the colors of the Herald on the cab and the road name on the
tenders for standard guage locomotives #207 & #208. Also, does anyone on
the list have and detail shots of these locomotives.

Michael,
The heralds were in Delux Gold, the yellow color. There is a good photo of
the herald in the book Tweetsie country, by mal Ferrell.

Hi:

I have three general questions:

1. In the ET&WNC website there is mention of an individual manufacturing
and selling ET&WNC, HOn3 box cars. If the box cars are available, how can I
get in touch with this individual? (email, mail, fax, phone, etc.)

2. What is a brass or plastic production HOn3 locomotive available that
would be close to the the ET&WNC 2-8-0's and 4-6-0's.

3. How do I join the ET&WNC historic/preservation society.

You'll have to contact Dave Hoffman via mail or phone .. he doesn't have email as far as I know. If you get the Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette, look under the new product pages for the past 2 or 3 issues for Dave's
address, etc.

Dave makes the boxcars; I make the hopper and 32' flat. At this time, I'm also collecting info on making the ET and LR 32' and 38' boxcars in urethane ... Dave's are wood with brass castings and neatly done. His are
currently available; mine are in the planning/development stages and won't be out until early next year.

Thanks,

No. 12

johnny graybeal <johnnyg@...>

Just thought I would let everyone know, the fall ride behind no. 12 fell
through. There is so much going on at TRR this summer and so much to be
done, the shop people are working 6 ten hour days a week and are still
behind. They could not promise me a date that the engine would be on (for
sure to be on) far enough ahead to publicize it.
Thats not to say 12 will not run this year. As of this moment though, no
one knows when.
I will post it when it happens.

Info on ET flat car kit

Jim King <jking@...>

Hi all,

I just spoke with Bob Brown, editor of the Gazette. He will be running
a new product review of my On3 ET&WNC flat car in the September issue,
showing all of the parts and his opinion of the contents.

My web page is now accessible for this car kit as well. For those of
you interested in looking at the pilot model, go to
www.catskillarts.com/smmw and tag the On3 section.

You may order one of these kits directly from me or from a few hobby
shops scattered along the east coast.

Thanks for reading this shameless attempt at cheap advertising!!
