Re: door color

Tim Smith

I painted mine red. I looked through many pictures and could see a color difference in the car and the doors. So I went with red. I know my combine 15 is not right for the era I am intending to represent. The mail and baggage doors should’ve been green.  There is color pictures of combine 15 and the baggage car 18 on Facebook.

Here is the my azalea and 15 below.

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. Keep in mind, it's still got the 'in the bag' look as I took this photo:
INBOX714249a8b2d55c0408f280c18babc810d92

The embroidery work was good. I'd asked Dal if he could make hats with this and he replied that this was likely going to be next (I asked to make them on adjustable hats that can adjust to bigger noggins like mine; fingers crossed). If he made hats with the logo above that would fit, I'd probably buy extra ones just in case!
I'm not shilling for Dal, I don't know him other than emails we've swapped on his products, but he's been very receptive to ET&WNC swag. Could someone make a mention of his gear in the next newsletter maybe?
I think we should let others know, as I can't be the only person out there who'd buy this stuff if they were aware of it.

Contact Dal at the website.
I've found him to be very receptive to new ideas.
More than a couple of ET&WNC items on his site came from my suggestions.

The earliest photo I have seen is a photo Delmar Loudermilk took around 1950, when he was young. The narrow gauge rails came out of the Bemberg/NARC facilities when the 204 and 205 were delivered in 1939 and 40.

Wendy,
I don't know what 'pill' means, you mean the little lint balls?
I've only washed mine once and worn it just twice so far (with a pandemic, who's gonna get to see it?), so I can't say if would do that.

NARC 1 with 3-footer trains?

Lee Bishop

I've never understood why I have yet to see a photo of the North American Rayon 0-6-0 fireless in any proximity of 3-foot gauge trains on the ET at Bemberg/Port Rayon. The Porter came to the plant in the 30s, so how come you never see photos of it in operation neat the narrow gauge? I know the ET ten-wheelers did switch cars near and into the plants at some point.
For that matter, I don't remember seeing any photos of NARC 1 earlier than the 50s or so, now that I ponder on it.
Anyone ever see shots earlier than that, or the fireless cooker near the 3-foot gauge stuff?

I added a fun little detail while I was working on the river at Hampton this morning. I came across a rock that I really liked but couldn't find a way to make it work in the river. So I added it and a small friend on the top of the bluff. At first, I couldn't figure out why this little scene made me so happy, until I remembered that I am modeling the Little Doe River.

It’s all good....The factory pilots on 11 and 12 in black are right for the post war era. The 9 would have had the other era. I’ve left all mine the factory pilot cause it’s just good enough for me.

While my face is quite red (both from embarrassment and the glee of having what I want now), I'm very grateful you posted that as I could see myself trying to scratchbuild sets of them.
This is why this group is so good, as even other On30 types might not have known what I was looking for.
Thanks again!

Ohhh...ok. Thank you!  Do you think the fabric will "pill" since it has 50% polyester in it? That was a concern of mine.

If I could figure out the angles and measurements, I'd love to make some of my own, but that'd be a lot of work (and I'd have to take into account the difference between On30 coupler height compared to the real scale height).
Anyone here wanna try to take this on as a 3D print? I don't have the skills, software or experience to try that myself.

You should have Other pilots In all the extra parts that came with the engines. One of the other pilots is pretty much the same as the original style.

Looking at other shots, I now realize they modelled them at the end of their service life. The wood pilots got swapped by boiler tube ones sometime in the 40s, as 10 and 14 are shown on the flatcars to leave for Alaska with the wood pilots in place.
Still, I bet there'd be a market for the pilots that came earlier. I'd sure pay for a 3D print of a wood pilot!
