Helga
and Heidi from Germany are moving to Linville North Carolina. Being
rather affluent, they have their brand-new T-Model in tow behind the
ET&WNC RR passenger train.
Conductor Cy Crumley knows just the place outside of Linville to let then get a good glimpse of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
While quite a stunning view, Heidi would rather play in the car.
These are some of the many trees I've been working on this weekend to give the layout a mountainous look.
The layout has sure come a long way from the blue foam stage.
Thanks for looking.

Hopper cars in process, On30...
Ever since the pandemic forced us all indoors, I’ve been mostly either working from home, doing whatever house cleaning chores my wife comes up with, or working on these.
They’re laser kits made by On30IMA. They’re quite challenging to work on as a lot of it you just have to figure out on your own, so I built only one at first, to use as a guide to building the rest. I’m glad I did that.
The remaining 4 I have (two more shorties and two ‘normal’ length) were done in an assembly line manner, all repetitive tasks for each type of part for each car. Now, the subassemblies are done and I need to put them all together into the shape of ET&WNC hopper cars.
I’ll be happy when these are done, as I’ve always wanted some of the Tweetsie’s ubiquitous wood hoppers but before recently nobody made them in O scale. There are at least two people I know who’ll make them as 3D prints, but only in O scale. Heck, I’d have paid a premium price for these as one piece, but nobody wanted to take the money. The kits aren’t exactly cheap, but once they’re done, I think they’ll be worth it. Only one (the near on in this photo) will not be carrying a load. They need weights and there’s NO place to put them but inside without being seen. So I did the detailed interior bottoms of the one, and the rest will permanently carry coal loads.

I feel you're doing the right thing. As a family physician on the front lines of this crazy epidemic, social distancing is the only tool we have right now. Looking forward to a vaccine perhaps in the upcoming months and a lot of work is going on to develop a medication to treat coronavirus. In the meantime, let us continue to use this great group to share ideas and pictures about our favorite little railroad. It will be a tremendous diversion and keep our spirits up. God bless us all during these trying times. Dr. Tom

Thanks Lee, we're bummed out as well. We'll get through it. 2020 may just be the "lost year" for many organizations. Lost but not last. Chris,
Even though I wasnt planning on going this year, I'm saddened to hear its been cancelled. That said, it's a very smart move and will make the 2021 convention all the more memorable! Stay safe, all, Lee Bishop Owner, Stoney Creek branch of the ET&WNC in On30 gauge

Re: NG convention in 2022?
Todd,
Here you go: https://www.flickr.com/photos/53587910@N05/albums/72157668176638961 The link in my signature line takes to my short website which talks about some of it in (rambling) detail... The more I think on it, the more I wish I'd modelled Port Rayon/Bemberg in the center of the layout, with the east end being Johnson City and the other the fictional line to Stoney Creek. Oh well, nobody builds the perfect layout... The dual gauge with O/On30 would have required hand layout track anyway, something I really didn't wanna do. -- Lee Bishop Owner, Stoney Creek branch of the ET&WNC in On30 gauge

I probably won’t be coming that way, but would love to see the layout in pictures. I have debated “ protolancing “ like you have. Just haven’t had the time.

Re: NG convention in 2022?
I'd love to have any member of the ET&WNC association of this IO group to visit (just keep in mind, my layout is a fictional branch line, not a representation of any real part of the ET&WNC as I simply lacked the space to re-create any real ET&WNC scenes). Once the time comes around, I'll post more on that, so any ET&WNC fan can come to visit if they want.
Also, if anyone wants to know more about the local RR stuff, I'd be happy to answer questions about that as well. There's a lot to see in this area! -- Lee Bishop Owner, Stoney Creek branch of the ET&WNC in On30 gauge

Tentatively, yes. I would love to visit your layout if we can attended.

Okay, I know it's insanely early to ask, but is anyone looking to come to the Seattle/Tacoma WA area for the 2022 NG convention? Lots of steam between the Seattle and Portland areas, and a lot of class 1 traffic. There are several narrow gauge layouts in the region as well. As far as I know I'm the only ET&WNC modeler in the region, but if anyone here is coming, let me know. My layout is pretty small but I'd love for anyone who really knows the ET&WNC to see it in person (it might be on the layout tours, as one of the organizers is a pal of mine and already pushing me to offer up the layout for tours and to put on at least one clinic)... -- Lee Bishop Owner, Stoney Creek branch of the ET&WNC in On30 gauge

My apologies for any cross posts.
Hello everyone, I will be set up at the Asheville Train Show Friday and Saturday, to promote the ET&WNC RR and to promote the Hickory National Narrow Gauge Convention, coming in less than a year and a half to Hickory NC. I welcome anyone in this group to come by and talk to me about the convention and what you can do to participate. I look forward to meeting many of you over the next year.
