SFBBO Waterfowl Workshop with Alvaro Jaramillo
Alvaro Jaramillo
Join the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory and Alvaro Jaramillo for a virtual 2-day Waterfowl Workshop! The Bay Area is an amazingly rich part of the world for waterfowl, and we are lucky that even in urban areas waterfowl diversity in winter is high. In addition to learning to identify them, we will touch on some of the biology of our wintering waterfowl, from migration to aspects of their unusual behavior of pair bonding during winter. As so many of our waterfowl are readily identified in their adult male plumages, we will be concentrating on the female and more complicated species that trip people up while birding in the field. We will also touch on techniques that may allow you to age waterfowl, a point that can be important as it explains some of the odd looking birds we see out there.
