Round Valley RP, Lewis's Woodpeckers

Kate Hoffman

Today Tim Kingston and I hiked most of Round Valley. Not many raptors (kestrels, mostly), possibly due to strong winds. However, we did find 4, maybe 6, white-breasted nuthatches at the group camp corner of Murphy Meadow Trail. When we lunched at the picnic table area along the Miwok Trail, in flew 3, maybe 4, Lewis's woodpeckers! Long, clear views of them. Merlin lists them as common in Brentwood, but they're not common to me. So fun to see them!
