Fall Passerine migration in the Berkeley Hills

Jim Chiropolos

I have seen the first pulses of passerine migration in the Berkeley hills. Both yesterday and today small groups of Western Tanagers are moving through. All males with orange heads and bright yellow plumage. This is the traditional pattern, and consistent with previous dates. The  early tanager migration is 75% plus males and later in the season the male - female/immature ratio reverses.

Good birding
