We birded Garin Park for the Varied Thrushes that Debbie saw on Friday,
Jan. 6, at 2:00pm. It was relatively "easy" then, and at least 5 were
spotted, with good views of 2. However, this morning at 10:30am, it was
another story with the presence of intermittent hikers and dogs. But we
persisted and were rewarded after half an hour. We got a good view
of one Varied Thrush and caught movement of probably two more.
Yesterday, there was a pair of Gadwalls in Jordan Pond and 10 Ring-necked Ducks.
This morning, we found the Ring-necked Ducks but no Gadwall. On the way back
along Dry Creek Trail at ~11:45am, we found the pair of Hooded Mergansers that
people reported a few days ago.
Also sighted in a thermal on the ridge was a kettle of at least 24 Turkey Vultures.
Near Jordan pond, we watched a flock of 22 White-throated Swifts, mixed with
2 Tree Swallows.
