The one in my backyard was either a Painted Lady or the Tortoiseshell. We’ve had large numbers of Painted Ladies in the east bay before.

Yesterday between 4-6 p.m. I counted 267 orange butterflies flying north over my Moraga house.They looked like California Tortoiseshells but they were pretty high and didn’t stop, so I am not

Rufous Hummingbird
Selasphorus hummers are very rare in my yard. Maybe once or twice an Allen's but this evening there was a male Rufous feeding on a salvia. The resident female Anna's seem to be MIA.

Rock Wren - Black Diamond Mines R. P., Antioch - 3/26
Yesterday, 3/26, between appointments and errands, we were able to bird at BDMRP for about two hours. In addition to the FOS Rock Wren, we also added House Wrens and Violet-green Swallows.

At 11:00 am today there were 2 Black Scoter males in the SE corner of the harbor at Marina Bay. The closest parking is at Shimada Park, follow trail west to the Marina to get to the inner SE corner.
