Varied Thrush - Antioch yard - 11/21
Moments ago there was a male Varied Thrush in our yard. I watched it for a few seconds, but after I went to get my wife, Nancy, I could not find it again. This was a new yard species for us.

Painted Redstart ongoing
Just in case others are wondering whether to try for the bird:
When we arrived this morning at 9:40, it appeared briefly at the top of the oak (back of driveway at 2733 Woolsey), then disappeared.

Lake Merritt Tufted Duck
The daily search finally paid off today.
I saw a male Tufted Duck near the pergola at Lake Merritt.
The bird was at the edge of the large raft of scaup near the floating barrier.
FIeld marks: scaup

Painted Redstart - finally got a few good pics!
OK, I chased the bird several times over the weekend and finally goat a few good pics I was pleased with - the 2% rule generally held. I found much greater success with the light, not up in the oak
