I wanted to head out to one of the Wildlife Refuges (Sacramento, Colusa, Merced, etc) this weekend. I'm evaluating a 400mm f/2.8 lens and thought one of the refuges with the snow geese or sandhill's

This morning ~9am, there were ~15 Mountain Bluebirds along Patterson Pass Road at Gate 9, basically the first big pullout on the right in the windfarm. Large flocks of Horned Larks, Lark and Savannah

Hooded Mergansers at Jewel Lake
Two Hooded Mergansers were seen around 4:30 PM on Jan 2nd at Jewel Lake, Tilden Nature Area.
Neither was adult breeding male.

Bald Eagle at Briones RP
While doing an annual Briones Regional Park hike today, our large group spotted a Bald Eagle from the Briones Crest Trail. The sighting was brief but close--four of us had binocs and we all saw it.

Around noon today, two sparrows flew out from the bushes by the channel where the Chochenyo meets the DUST Trail at Coyote Hills and landed across the trail in the bushes behind the DUST trail sign.
