A note on identifying birds in photos: I'm not as good at it as some people are. I seem to get more reliable clues from live birds in the field. Photos pick only a single pose and often foreshorten

With the exception of precocial juveniles that are out and mobile shortly after hatching (around here this would be geese, mallards and killdeer, not much else) juveniles are essentially “adult”
