Heather Farm sightings
Today I found an eBird report from Sunday afternoon visit to Heather Farm--10 Common Goldeneyes and 20 Greater White-fronted Geese. Darn, the one afternoon I did not visit the park . . . .

Re: Short-eared Owl Pt Isabel?
Agree with Derek— in an area with few tall roost sites and hundreds of off leash dogs and meddling humans, it seems likely the owl is just getting flushed. Perhaps by the observer..

A Barn Owl seen flying during the day, but not hunting, would not be considered
diurnal. I would assume that it was flushed by something and was simply flying to a new perch.

Daytime (diurnal) Barn Owl
I am used to seeing Barn Owls at Dark or Dusk. Also, I have seen them during the day in barns, owl boxes in season, and in palm trees. These locations are semi-permanent

I've been thinking a little more about this. Of course it doesn't include birds of prey who hunt other birds. But there are instances where there are large numbers of much smaller birds

Gallinule?
Went back to take a quick look at the bird in question.
Yesterday it was swimming on its own in a shadowed part of the lake and I thought the color on its back was purplish.

Re: Eurasian Wigeons in Pt. Pinole
I am always hesitant to call a female Wigeon a Eurasian Wigeon without seeing the upperwing greater secondary covert pattern, the most objective and definitive way to tell them apart.

Many flickers - might see one here but today saw many.
First red-shouldered hawk here - usually see red tails perched high on transmission towers, red-shouldered flew over
