Ruddy Turnstone in Alameda

Noah Arthur

This afternoon, among probably thousands of common shorebirds, there was a juvenile (or perhaps nonbreeding adult) RUDDY TURNSTONE at Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary in Alameda. Bird numbers here have been astronomical lately (incoming and outgoing tides are best), and it felt like about time for "something different" to show up! The turnstone was kicking around in with the assembled hordes for the whole time I was there, even after the rising tide had dispersed a lot of the other small shorebirds.
