Mating Clark's grebes

greg greg

On the northeast edge of the Albany Bulb there were about five or six very amorous grebe couples (possibly westerns?). At about 5:30 this afternoon at mid-tide, there was much conversation, dancing, and finally mating on the small islets that form at mid-tide. I spent about 45 amazing minutes watching them as they were doing this maybe 30 feet from the edge off the shoreline.
