Re: Locations of sightings

There may also be some birders from out of state who are subscribers. Time is
short for running down inadequate directions for sightings. Idiot-proofing reports is ideal for us foreigners, unless you don't want us to see your birds. All the best. -Ken Archambault, Birmingham, Alabama ________________________________ From: Michael Feighner <feinerVogel94551@comcast.net> To: EBB_Sightings@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wed, September 22, 2010 3:39:07 PM Subject: RE: [EBB_Sightings] Locations of sightings My take on this as follows: When I report, I always assume there is someone who is new out there and has never heard of the location. I put myself in the reader's shoes and ask myself whether I can follow the directions I am giving. Is there anything that is not clear? I also differentiate the location in the email title such as Shadow Cliffs Regional Park (Alameda County) or Point Isabel (Contra Costa County). Some may say well isn't that obvious? Well, it just might not be so obvious to someone. I also never abbreviate location names such as SCRP for Shadow Cliffs Regional Park or PI for Point Isabel. -- Michael Feighner Livermore, CA, Alameda County http://www.linkedIn.com/in/michaelfeighner -----Original Message----- From: EBB_Sightings@yahoogroups.com [mailto:EBB_Sightings@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Bob Power Sent: Tuesday, September 21, 2010 10:55 PM To: Fallingwater@comcast.net; EBB_Sightings@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [EBB_Sightings] Locations of sightings Greg, I'm as guilty as the next person. We'll all be good for a while and then we'll slip. I don't think anyone would object to a direct question like: "Could you be more specific about this location?" Don't hesitate to ask for more clarity directly from the person who posts a sighting. I would think others on the list or someone just moving into the area, may feel the same. May I suggest putting the City of the location of a posted sightings? It would be helpful in finding the location. Thanks Greg [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
