Sunol Regional Wilderness
Yesterday, I led my Palo Alto Adult School birding class to Sunol
Regional Wilderness. Activity was slower than expected, but it was a lovely day and several first-of-season species were found. After lunch, we had intended to drive by the Calaveras Reservoir, but found the road blocked due to a car accident. Highlights from Sunol include: Golden Eagle White-throated Swift Western Wood Pewee Ash-throated Flycatcher Western Kingbird Warbling Vireo Cassin's Vireo Warbling Vireo Yellow Warbler Wilson's Warbler Western Tanager Black-headed Grosbeak Lazuli Bunting Rufous-crowned Sparrow Bullock's Oriole Dragonflies observations helped occupy the slow periods. We found the following: Black Saddlebags (first of season) Red Rock Skimmer Flame Skimmer Cardinal Meadowhawk Pacific Clubtail Bluets and Dancers... (did not ID) . . .
