Osprey at Berkeley Shoreline

George A Suennen

Hello all,

With a break in the rain, I've taken the opportunity to take a few
excursions.
Saw an Osprey cruising the waterfront at the Berkeley Shoreline. Didn't see
it dive for food, but it did hover for a while:

Also saw a very distinctive Yellow variant House Finch while there:

Other semi-notable birds include a couple of White-tailed Kites,
American Kestrel, Red-tailed
Hawk, and Western Meadowlark. I put the photos up at:

*Yesterday took an hour off and visited the Berkeley Aquatic Park.
Found an Anna's Hummingbird
with a curved bill:

It was singing away at the edge of the middle pond. Also saw a lot of
Buffleheads doing their
barefoot skiing landing:

Also got some good birds in flight shots.

On Tuesday I checked out Jewel Lake and saw dozens of Ruby-crowned
Kinglets, some
even had ruby-crowns:

And the male Hooded Merganser was back, but the females were not:

Also today I stopped by Don Castro RRA with Allen H. to find the
Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker. We were able to find it and a Nuttall's Woodpecker:

It felt good to go out in the sunshine, but I guess the rain is coming
back...

Hopefully you find this report useful,
George
