Mitchell Canyon 04-14-12
All,
I led my Palo Alto Adult School birding class to Mitchell Canyon today. It was a great day except for the ticks! Highlights were several HAMMOND'S and PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS throughout the day at a variety of locations, two NASHVILLE WARBLERS on the Red Hill Trail, several BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS in this same area, and perhaps a dozen BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS in various places along the main trail. We also found our first-of-season WESTERN TANAGER just beyond the junction with Globe Lily, and at least two CASSIN'S VIREOS. One MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER was seen and heard just beyond the junction to Globe Lily along the creek. We also had a single GOLDEN EAGLE, a dozen WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS and a HOUSE WREN. Only one BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was found. Please support Team DeDUCKtions on the upcoming Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society birdathon: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/DeDUCKtions/ matthewdoddersfundraisingpage No pledge is too small (or too large)!
