Rich,

"San Pablo Bay" Song Sparrow, also known as "Samuels" Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia samuelis) is one of three subspecies of Song Sparrow that are endemic to the salt marshes surrounding SF, San Pablo and Suisun Bays. The others are "Alameda" Song Sparrow (M. m. pusillula) and "Suisun" Song Sparrow (M. m. maxillaris). All three are listed as Species of Special Concern by California DFG, and all three have detailed species accounts in "California Bird Species of Special Concern" published jointly by Western Field Ornithologists and California DFG in 2008. If you don't have a copy of the book (a must for anyone interested in California bird conservation), you can download the species accounts in pdf format from the DFG site:

Just click the link for Samuels Song Sparrow in the table near the bottom of the page.

Good birding.
