Re: Summer Tanager 11/2, new location

Hi, al.

Any more sightings of the summer tanager? I was up to look both Friday & Saturday & there was no sight of sound of him @ either the last sighting on Hillside or much of the east side of the Clark Kerr campus. Has he decided he's in the wrong place & moved on?

Thanks,

FYI: Typo noted: should be Hillside Ave, according to ebird & map.

Hi all,

Finally found the Summer Tanager, but in a new location much closer to campus. It was where Hillsdale crosses a small creek. It was calling almost non stop.. Hard to see but finally got a good look - bright, all red male so surely the same individual.

The male Summer Tanager was seen briefly today, Nov. 1 at 9:30 where the Tanglewood trail meets the Claremont Canyon trail or at the start of the fire road up the hill. It was foraging with Robins on pyracanthus berries just above the houses on Tanglewood Road, and flew into the tall Eucalyptus nearest the fire trail and then slowly moved away. It was not seen in the half hour spent searching for it after the initial sighting. It took me 1 1/2 hrs to find it so patience is required.

Good Luck.
