Hello all,

Regarding California Tortoiseshell butterflies. They were flying all the way to the coast yesterday. I had constant sightings through the mid-day and afternoon. All heading inland, purposefully, none stopping at flowers. Some were coming off the ocean here in Half Moon Bay. The last big movement I have in my notes here in Half Moon Bay was in the fall of 2004 – Oct 13 to be precise.

California Tortoiseshells were also seen flying in pairs and singly in Sibley Regional Park Thursday evening from the Quarry trail.. A photo can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dindelion/40222549125/in/datetaken-public/

Happy birding & butterflying!
