Yesterday, 4/20, Mt. Diablo Audubon Society conducted its annual outing to BDMRP.

Highlights included:

Canyon Wren - beautifully seen and heard along the Chaparral Loop Trail above the Hazel Atlas Portal
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - along the Chaparral Loop Trail, a pair was seen and one of the birds was on the nest
California Thrasher - seen and heard along the Ridge Trail
Ash-throated Flycatcher - heard in many locations, but seen beautifully in the upper parking lot
Bullock's Oriole - nicely seen in the upper parking lot
Phainopepla and Cedar Waxwings - seen in the trees in the main visitor center parking lot
Orange-crowned and Wilson’s Warblers - heard in many locations
White-throated Swifts - many seen and heard along the Chaparral Loop Trail
Violet-green Swallow - a perched pair was seen nicely in the upper parking lot
Western Kingbird - seen along the Ridge Trail and the entry road near the Old Moeller Ranch
Belted Kingfishers - a pair was seen frequenting an exposed bank in the gully on the west side of the entry gate

In addition to the fifty species seen/heard, the group enjoyed numerous spring wildflowers and the vistas were spectacular. Great time of the year!
