Unable to connect

Madhup Rathi

I cannot reach my router. Are you all able to?

Dan Crowson

Madhup,

I can’t ping that router or see anything behind it. The static IP connections are up. Maybe someone needs to check the router in the apartments and make sure it is up and running.

Dan

It's been really strange all day. I have been able to get back into the router twice and be able to connect using team viewer for upto an hour and then it goes off line again.

Am I the only one having the issue or are others getting intermittent problem.

Right now, it is off line.

Thanks,
Madhup

I checked this afternoon and was able to ping my computer using a remote access app on my phone. Now the app shows my computer offline. I’m not going to try imaging tonight with that condition!

I cannot ping anything either...

Was up and down more than once today...
I would connect then later find it had disconnected...

Power outage?  Or Valley Telecom problem?

Thanks,

Howard

So I got in and queried my Powerchute UPS and it indicates no
power problems recently...

Must be Valley Telecom playing with things?

Still experiencing frequent connection problems.

I have called Valley Telecom about this and they are
going to call me back when a technical support person
is available this morning.

I put a "ping monitor" up a day or two ago and have the following results from last night:

Anyone power cycle that router? That should have been the first thing to try if it hasn’t been done.

Hi Dan,

Have you ever seen a router behave exactly like that?  I have not.

Appreciate your volunteering to power cycle the router though.

I don't think anyone else is on site currently?

Thanks,

Howard,

I’m not on site. I didn’t put it as eloquently below as I should have but it sounds like the router could be cycling or doing something stupid. Remember the last time it had some issues, the power strip was messed up or something like that. I makes sense to have someone look at it. I wonder if it is even on a UPS? I don’t have access to that router or I’d login and take a look at the log.

Hi Dan,

OK, Thanks.  I checked the router log just now and I don't see anything
peculiar.  Doesn't seem to be cycling.  I am pretty sure it is a Valley Telecom
problem like one of their machines rebooting periodically.  They have not
called me back yet.  The "ticket number" is 2358524.

Several of the outages were 8 minutes in length making me think
maybe one of their machines is periodically rebooting.

Will let you all know if and when I hear from Valley Telecom...

Thanks,

Howard

Howard,

It may be nothing at Valley.   With the cat 5 laying on the ground there's a good chance there are intermittent connections or some capacitive coupling going on.   I've been pinging point 5 all day and it hasn't had a problem... Try pinging when the ground is dry vs after or during a rain and you'll see the difference.  Or ping the router and then your equipment and log the differences.

My typical modus operandi is to make sure all the stuff on our end is solid before calling in a utility company.

Hi Al,

Thanks.

I just talked again with Valley Telecom and they say they are doing
something at their end with equipment and lines that is presumably
causing the problem.  I will know more when they finish whatever they
are doing and call me back...

I am using a freeware ping monitor that does a great job of
logging ups and downs...  Its working well...

Last outage was 11:59:43 to 12:07:20.  If you had pinged
during that interval you would not have received a response.
The line is working currently.

Thanks,

Howard

Howard,

Well I hope they don't screw something up cause from what I see here... they have no problem.  Ping times to point 5 from me are between 71 and 74ms with zero time outs... it can't get more solid.   If they change anything it will most likely get worse for us.

I am having lot of connectivity issues since yesterday. It is very intermittent, especially during the day.

I just spoke to Dr. Hensley, who did not seem to know anything about it. He thought it is my problem, but, I explained that Howard is also facing the same issue. He told me that he will call Howard.

This is a site problem, and the group should ask Hensley to resolve this. I believe tat it is their responsibility to troubleshoot if there is inconsistent internet connection.

Latest info from 1125 today.  I will continue monitoring:

Hello Howard,

Our Network department made some changes on our side and they tell me you should be running normally now. If you still happen to notice the drops, you would then need to look into the router being the issue. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,
