NGC 6872

Hi, This is an image of NGC 6872 (center top galaxy). It is a barred spiral galaxy about 212 million light years away in the constellation Pavo. It is interacting with lenticular galaxy IC 4970 just below it. From tip to tip this galaxy is 522,000 light years, making it one of the largest known spiral galaxies. There are several other galaxies in this frame, including NGC 6876, NGC 6877, and NGC 6880, all at the top right.
