Arp 91

Arp 91 consists of NGC 5954 (UGC 9904, VV 244b and others), the up and down spiral interacting with NGC 5953 (UGC 9903, VV 244/a and others) the distorted spiral to the right (west) of it. These are part of the ‘Spiral Galaxies – Companions on Arms – Large, High Surface Brightness Companions’ class. The newest study puts these at approximately 52 million light-years away in Serpens Caput. Older redshift distance estimates are nearly double.

 

NGC 5951 (UGC 9895 and others) is the nice galaxy at the bottom right.

This nebula is often overlooked or imaged along with the more popular Soul Nebula (IC 1848). Arp 105

Arp 105 (the Guitar or I’d call it the Geyser) consists of three galaxies in Arp’s ‘E and E-like Galaxies – Connected to Spirals’ class. The top galaxy with the plume is NGC 3561A (NGC 3561N, VV 237c and others). The middle galaxy is NGC 3561 (NGC 3561B, UGC 6224, VV 237a and many others). The bottom galaxy ‘area’ is known as Ambartsumian’s Knot (VV 237b and others). These all appear to be approximately 412 million light-years away in Usra Major.

 

While not on Arp’s list, NGC 3550 (UGC 6214 and others) appears to be the result of something that was probably really bad in the past. This is the large galaxy near the center top that appears to have three bright cores.

 

Most, if not all of the galaxies in this image are part of the Abell 1181 Galaxy Cluster.

Hi all:

vdB 136 is a small reflection nebula in Cygnus.  It is illuminated by a bright yellow star with lots of emission nebulosity in the background.  I was hoping to add some Ha but the monsoon clouds seem to be hovering over southwest New Mexico.

The right side of this image contains Abell 1809, a cluster of approximately 78 galaxies. The largest member might be NGC 5338 (UGC 8800 and others), the galaxy at the center of the image.

NGC 7424

Hi,

 

This is an image of NGC 7424. It is a barred, grand design spiral galaxy about 37 million light years away in the constellation Grus. It is about 100,000 light years in diameter, making it about the same sixe as the Milky Way galaxy. The reddish central core indicates presence of older stars, while the blue spiral arms indicate ionized hydrogen and clusters of younger stars.

Bernard, it’s that 300 feet that makes all the difference. J

 

We open when it is a bit windier than you can probably deal with. My scope is shroudless and it makes a huge difference if there’s any kind of wind. We also tend to look at the all-sky because there are a lot of times when the forecast says clouds and the sky is clear. Case in point is that the best skies all year (for me) were the night of 7/7 morning of 7/8. CSC showed seeing of something like 2/5.
