Hi,

This is an image of NGC 1313, also known as the Topsy Turvy Galaxy. It is a barred spiral galaxy about 13 million light years away in the constellation Reticulum. It has an uneven shape and its axis of rotation is not at its center. In addition it shows areas of strong star forming regions. This all points to a collision with another galaxy in the past, but NGC 1313 is a field galaxy with no other galaxies nearby. It may be that it merged with a smaller galaxy and consumed it sometime in the past.

Comments and suggestions welcomed.
