Sh2-298 (NGC 2359, IC 468, Gum 4, LBN 1041, Thor’s Helmet) is an emission nebula located approximately 15,000 light-years away in Canis Major. The nebula is created by the center Wolf-Rayet star HD 56925.
Ha – 24x1800s – 720 minutes – binned 1x1 OIII – 25x1800s – 750 minutes – binned 1x1 RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
1590 minutes total exposure – 26 hours 30 minutes
Imaged over 13 nights from December, 2016 through January, 2018 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
