Yaesu FT-858D Problem

Bill <ko4nrbs@...>

We have used the recommended Yaesu settings for DX Commander but can’t get the FT-857D to communicate with DX Commander.  Turning the dial on the radio does nothing.

Any ideas?

What interface are you using between you computer and
the TTL based CAT port of the FT-857D?

We are using Digimode-1-Yaesu Option 1

Have you followed the information in "Getting Started with DxLab Suite"
- in particular, "Getting Started with Yaesu Transceiver Control"

Be sure that Commander is configured to match the FT-857D CAT rate
4800-8-n-2 by default (Menu 19). Once you have it working correctly,
you may want to increase the CAT rate to 38,400 bps in both menu 19
and Commander for better response.

Then I suggest trying a different interface cable.

http://www.xggcomms.com/Yaesu-Interface-Shop(2066629).htm

+ To be certain I haven't introduced a regression, I just re-tested Commander with my FT-817, which uses the same instruction set as your FT-857; frequency and mode tracking and control are working correctly.

+ If you have configured Commander as described in

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/TranceiverControlYaesu>

+ then check all connectors for bent pins, and check all involved cables for continuity. If that inspection doesn't reveal the problem, then the "Yaesu interface" should be your next focus; is it configured correctly? The last possibility is that your transceiver's CAT port is not working correctly; you'll need a serial port analyzer or oscilloscope to diagnose that.

Got it going.  The CAT plug that plugs into the radio had a pin that was pushed back into the plug some.  Pulled it out for now and everything works as it should.

Thanks and 73,

+ Not a "bent pin", but close! Glad you got it sorted, Bill.
