WinWarbler CW keyer usnig WinKeyer USB died suddenly
WinWarbler's CW keyer using my WinKeyer USB device died suddenly possibly after installation of rt-SYSTEMS WCS-7610 software this week.
My WinKeyer USB stopped working for the CW function keys on both WinWarbler and N1MM+. WinKeyer USB is working fine manually, and batteries are new. When I unplug and replug in the USB cable in WinKeyer, the computer beeps acknowledging the device, but I no longer see a new device appear on Device--Ports. When I select COM1 which is listed on Ports, it still doesn't work. It was working on COM5 before. Now no COM5. It's been working fine for past 2 years. Now the WinWarbler Operating Mode block shows "CW" in red and says "WinKey not responding (connecting)" when mousing over it. (see screenshot below) Did a complete shutdown and start up again this morning with no impact on Winwarbler's Win-keyer function. No other DX Lab apps appear to be affected. Commander works fine. The WinKeyer COM port 5 seems to have disappeared from the my device manger COM ports listing. I am getting the error messages shown below and the CW mode is now red on WinWarbler saying it cannot find WinKeyer. I did think about the windows power management issue on all USB hubs in windows so checked those finding nothing changed there. All USB hubs say the device is working. When I opened the USB Serial Converter (FTDI) I saw a status message (see below) that the digital signature for the drivers cannot be verified (any longer). Tried to update the drivers, but it says currently using the best drivers. It also mentions a recent software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged. I did just install WCS-7610-USB by RT Systems for programming memories on the IC-7610. So this is my prime suspect in this case. I am not even currently using this USB Serial Converter anymore as it was for my old Icom 756 and the CIV interface that the 756 used for radio control. Have an Icom 7610 for over 2 years now. Here's what I'll try next unless any IT experts have some other ideas what else to try first: 1. Uninstall the WCS-7610-USB software by RT Systems. 2. If available, Roll Back the Driver for USB Serial Converter (my 756 is my back up radio). 2a. - Check if Winkeyer works again on logging apps. If so, done. 2b. - Last: Physically remove the Serial Converter device from the computer's USB port. -- 73, de ed -K0iL Omaha, NE |

1) unplug your WinKeyer 2) Open Windows Device Manager 3) Select View -> Devices By Type 4) Select View and check "Show hidden devices" 5) right click on each *gray* device in Ports (COM & LPT) and select "uninstall device" 6) Unplug your RT-Systems device 7) reconnect the WinKeyer and allow it to reinstall its driver (it will probably install to a new port number so you will need to select that new port in WinWarbler and N1MM). 73, ...
