Restoring log from LotW?

Tad Danley K3TD

I lost the hard drive on my Windows 10 pc that had DXKeeper on it, and have replaced the pc with a Windows 11 machine with a solid state hard drive.  Unfortunately I did not have anything backed up remotely - shame on me.  How much of my log, if anything, can I recover from LotW and how can I find the process to do this?  Thanks and 73,

You're going to lose quite a bit of information, as LotW only retains basic QSO data, but it's better than nothing.

Here are the instructions.

DXKeeper can be set to automatically save the log file every time the program closes.  Just go to the Log tab and set another hard drive as the backup folder.  The program will automatically save a log backup every time the program closes.

You’ll have multiple generations of complete log backups in case you lose your hard drive.

Provided you're saving the file to somewhere other than that hard drive.

I backup to two locations:
-  a local USD flash drive in case the hard drive crashes
-  a cloud storage account in case the house burns down

Why is it after all this time where others have had the same issue,
There are so many that have not figured out they should keep backups of their data??????

BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP.

It really is not very difficult and will save you a lot of time if you have a crash.

It will also keep those of us that do understand from having to see you were not paying attention to basics.

There are two types of people in the world.
1. Those who have lost all of their data due to a disk failure.
2. Those who will lose all of their data due to a disk failure.
(Actually, there's a third: those who lost it all before and lose it all again. Been there.)

Using Logbook data to recover is a very poor substitute, as that only stores very limited information.
DXKeeper provides ample resources for backing up your log automatically. I strongly suggest adding a cloud storage solution of some kind (Box, Dropbox, etc.) and setting that for saving your log.

I guess when you get a lighting strike it is not to take out anything hooked up to wires?
I will try to pay more attention to the basics as you said.

A lightning strike will have no affect on a properly stored backup.

You can get enough free storage at Dropbox (or other online storage
service) to easily back up your DXKeeper log.

Set up your TQSL instance to backup your certificates and station
locations to the same place:
