QTH with automatic Primary-Secondary entry

Abie Alexander

Hi Dave,

Is there any way to have the QTH field on the log page automatically fill up with the hyphenated names of Primary and Secondary (as in Primary-Secondary) when these fields are filled in?

That would eliminate the tedious task of typing them in and would also avoid typos.

Thanks for considering this suggestion.

+ That information is placed in appropriately-named items in the Awards panel on the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab. For a US station,
items are named "state" and "country; for a Russian station, they are named "oblast" and "district".

+ Placing this information in separate items (rather than in the QTH item) makes award tracking more accurate (e.g. not confusing a
town named Indiana with the state of Indiana).

+ The selectors for these items are populated with codes specified by ADIF:

http://adif.org.uk/311/ADIF_311_annotated.htm#Primary_Administrative_Subdivision

http://adif.org.uk/311/ADIF_311_annotated.htm#Secondary_Administrative_Subdivision

+ If you wish to select a primary or secondary administrative subdivision by full name, click the ? button to the left of the item.

+ Note that some callbooks include a callsign's primary and secondary administrative subdivisions.

# I should have pointed out that these items are also provided in the 5th "row" of DXKeeper's Capture window - including the ? buttons that enable selection from a list of valid names.

Thanks for both responses, Dave!

A follow-up question, though. What’s QTH on the top line for? Wouldn’t typing into this field be avoidable duplication if entering the Primary and Secondary fields could automatically populate both into the QTH field?

+ The QTH item is for recording your QSO partner's city or town.

+ You don't want to have to type

Wayland, Middlesex County, Massachusetts

+ as my QTH. The State and County items provide drop-down selectors, avoiding the typing.

+ And separate items for State and County improve accuracy for award tracking.

Thanks, Dave, for clarifying!

I was looking at it more from the JA angle where the “city/gun/ku” also pops up along with the Primary and Secondary.

Makes complete sense.
