Odd LoTW response

Phil Cooper

Hi all,

After a short session on the radio this morning, when I attempt to upload to LoTW, I get the following response:
TQSL Version 2.6.5 [v2.6.5]
Signing using Callsign GU0SUP, DXCC Entity GUERNSEY

Attempting to upload 15 QSOs
C:\DXLab\DXKeeper\LotWUpload.ADI: Got an unexpected response on Log upload! Maybe the site is down?
Final Status: Unexpected LoTW Response(3)

Is this something I have messed up? I can log into the LoTW page, so I am not sure what is going on.

Same response here, Phil. The LoTW Server is not processing submitted QSOs. It's queue duration is 8 hours:

http://www.arrl.org/logbook-queue-status

The CQ WPX contest doesn't end for another 14+ hours.

OK all,

Thanks for confirming it's not just me!
I had just requested a new TQSL certificate for our club call, and wondered if I had somehow messed something up, but it seems not.

Thanks to all who replied! I can now breathe a sigh of relief...

Phil,

I get the same response.  I check the number of QSOs being processed by LoTW and see that it is very slow, only a 2-3/minute.  The LoTW Queue is approximately 10 hours.  So clearly there is an issue.

This has happened before and it was then corrected.  I expect that someone at the ARRL HQ will take appropriate action to resolve the issue in a few hours.

I'll wait patiently.

You are indeed not alone, Phil. I received the exact same message Saturday evening when I tried to upload. It is small comfort to know that others are similarly afflicted as it indicates that I'm probably not responsible for the event. I'll wait for information as to how to proceed. Good luck to us all. Thanks for information about the contest!

I get the same response as others, Unexpected LoTW Response(3).

I expect once the contest is over there will be a number of contest log uploads, which should extend the queue duration even longer. But after a day or so, it should return to normal, correct?

15 hours, now, of course.

Some possible housekeeping: DXKeeper's error dialog says "unexpected
response from TQSL server". I think that should be "LOTW server".

When I 'Check LotW Queue' in DXKeeper it returns 15h 3m 6s - so they are most likely inhibiting uploads to throttle the queue a bit.

Some possible housekeeping: DXKeeper's error dialog says "unexpected
response from TQSL server". I think that should be "LOTW server".

+ DXKeeper treats TQSL as a server for submitting QSOs to LoTW". In that error message, the word "server" is superfluous, and will be removed.

I changed the error message to

That's a lot better than what I would have put -- "Something weird happened..."

I have 41 QSO's uploaded from about this time yesterday, and still have not shown up in LOTW.  At upload time, they showed accepted.

Are CQ WPX contesters submitting each individual QSO separately to LotW as they make them?! What's the point of that?

+ No serious contester would do that, as it would lower their rate; they don't do callbook lookups in realtime either. Typically contesters are using N1MM or equivalent during the contest, and then after the contest exporting their log to an ADIF file that they import into DXKeeper. With a few mouse clicks, all of their contest QSOs can then be submitted to LoTW in a single batch .

+ There are a few contesters who use the bridge between N1MM and DXKeeper to log contest QSOs directly to DXKeeper in realtime. The bridge can be configured to direct DXKeeper to upload the QSOs to LoTW as they are logged, but the "need for speed" likely means that few enable that capability.
