Can't log with Winwarbler

Chip Swett

I need some setup hints.  I am using Winwarbler for PSK but when I 'log' a contact, it does not appear in DxKeeper.  I have followed the Winwarbler setup guidelines in the Wiki.  Thanks.

+ So that I can see what's going on, please do the following with DXKeeper running:

1. on the General tab of WinWarbler's Configuration window, check the "log debugging info" box

2. terminate WinWarbler

3. start WinWarbler

4. log a QSO via WinWarbler

5. on the General tab of WinWarbler's Configuration window, uncheck the "log debugging info" box

6. attach the errorlog.txt file from your WinWarbler folder to an email message, and send the message to me via

Thanks for your response, Dave.  The error log is attached. When I hit the 'log' button, it does not clear the fields in the log panel.  I have manually clicked the 'start' and 'end' qso buttons.  I don't know if that is required.

Thanks for sending me your errorlog, Chip.

The entry

07-Aug-2022 19:41:21 > program error 285 in module PSKMinilog.LogQSO, State = 89: Foreign application won't perform DDE method or operation

means that WinWarbler is unable to convey a "log QSO" directive to DXKeeper. The mechanism use to convey such directives is DDE - a service provided by Windows.

There are three possible reasons that this is happening:

1. WinWarbler and DXKeeper were not started with the same level of administrative privilege. To convey a DDE message between one application and another, Windows requires that both applications either hold Administrator privileges, or not hold Administrator privileges. Unless you installed your DXLab applications in what Windows considers a "protected folder" - like

c:\Program Files (x86)

there is no reason for any DXLab application to be started with Administrator privileges.

2. Your anti-malware is preventing your DXLab apps from sending or receiving DDE messages. You can test this hypothesis by rebooting Windows into "Safe Mode with Networking", starting DXKeeper and WinWarbler, and seeing if WinWarbler can now log a QSO to DXKeeper.

3. Your instance of Windows is broken.
