DX Keeper tx band not showing regular bands

Grover Cleveland <k7tp@...>

I'm seeing 1, 4, 118, 8 etc.
Have I misconfigured?

Additional info: where is the DXKeeper log page display configuration supposed to be saved? I think that the location somehow became
C:\Program Files (x86)\DXKeeper\Databases\DefaultBands.txt
and that seems very wrong.

+ You can configure DXKeeper to save it wherever you like.

I think that the location somehow became C:\Program Files (x86)\DXKeeper\Databases\DefaultBands.txt
and that seems very wrong.

+ That would overwrite the file used to specify the bands that DXKeeper supports. You can obtain a replacement from

<www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/DefaultBands.txt>

+ To recover

1. In the "Log Page Display " panel on the Configuration window's Log file change the pathname specified in the "Log Page Display layout file" box. Consider creating a LogLayouts sub-folder in your DXKeeper folder to maintain your Log Page Display layouts.

2. Terminate DXKeeper

3. Download the replacement DefaultBands.txt file into DXKeeper's Databases folder (replacing the existing file with that name)

4. Start DXKeeper; are DXKeeper's Band selectors now correctly populated?

+ You might check the Windows Event Logs to see if a hardware or software error occurred around the time that you first noticed that the Band Selectors were no longer displaying correct choices, as this indicates a failure in the Windows Registry (where DXKeeper stores its settings.)

Dave,

Copied the DefaultBands from the web and pasted it into a new text file "DefaultBands.text" then placed that into the DXKeeper/Database -
C:\Program Files (x86)\DXKeeper\Databases
DxKeeper still shows the old numbers (incorrect) after a reboot.

+ My instructions were to download the file DefaultBands.txt, replacing the existing file in DXKeeper's Databases folder with that name.

+ If I correctly understand your report above, you created a new file named DefaultBands.text, leaving the corrupted DefaultBands.txt in place.

+ Delete DefaultBands.txt, then rename DefaultBands.text to DefaultBands.txt, and then restart DXKeeper.

+ If that's the case, your PC or Windows or both are not working correctly. With "log debugging enabled" when starting up, DXKeeper always adds entries to its errorlog.txt file.

Is this possibly a problem with K7TP placing his DXLab files in the protected X86 program directory instead of the recommended C:DXLab folder?

And/or what user permissions he is logged in with?

+ DXKeeper would only successfully run in a protected folder if it had administrative privileges, in which case the errorlog.txt file would be present in the DXKeeper folder.

I think it will be easier if I remove the software and reinstall, saving my log and setting files of course. I'll report back.

+ That's unlikely to correct whatever caused your Windows Registry to be corrupted, and whatever is preventing DXKeeper from generating an errorlog.txt file. Did you check the Windows event logs?

Dave,

I did in fact do a complete re-install of all the applications, before I saw your message, and it did solve all the problems with DXKeeper.

One slight remaining issue is not of major concern; DXView is currently at 2.6.8 but launcher won't update to 4.75  (just a slight flash of a window).

Other than that, all is hunky-dory and thanks for your help.

+ DXView 2.6.8 is ancient.

+ As a first step, reboot Windows, and then direct the Launcher to update DXView. Any joy?
