Winwarbler Log Not Showing Az Value

Mark Robinson

I started using Winwarbler in the RTTY contest today and and found it to be an excellent tool.

When I look at the Winwarbler logging window, I see that it populates the station callsign and grid  info but it doesn't display anything in the Az window. I have been unable to get it to show the bearing.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  I have my station info entered in DXKeeper.

WinWarbler can't compute the Azimuth without knowing whether you are working the station short path or long path. Since most QSOs are short path, set the Path selector in the "Default Settings" panel on the Configuration window's Log tab to 'S'. You can change the Path selector in the Main window's "QSO Info" panel to 'L' when working a station via long path.

Winwarbler log display is showing Path as S but to be sure I went to

Win Warbler > Config > Log > Path is set to S.

Winwarbler  still doesn't show an AZ value.

I see that DXView shows a bearing but nothing in WinWarbler so far.

I notice also that the WinWarbler log window is keeping the old State and County information.  If I change the callsign to say AA9L and press enter,  the log window is showing a new grid DN41ab but it is showing the old state as AZ and county AZ Maricopa from a previous callsign.

+ In the title bar of WinWarbler's Main window, what letters appear between the square brackets?

+ That's correct behavior: information retrieved from a callbook lookup or from previous QSOs does not replace information already present in the "QSO Info" panel. You can clear all information present in the "QSO Info" panel by striking CTRL-W (for "wipe") or by clicking the X button in the upper-right corner of the panel.

It says

CC   DXK   DXV  SC

Although yesterday I wasn't running the DXV or SC

OK I will use the clear function because yesterday I ended up populating incorrect state and county information into my DXKeeper log.

Unless DXView is running and WinWarbler is communicating with it -- as indicated by the presence of DXV between the square brackets in WinWarbler's Main window -- the azimuth in WinWarbler's "QSO Info" panel will not be populated with the heading shown in DXView.

As a first step, please reboot Windows, and then start DXKeeper, DXView, and WinWarbler. Confirm that the letters DXV are present between the square brackets in the title bar of WinWarbler's Main window. Type my callsign into WinWarbler's "QSO Info" panel, and strike the Enter key. Does DXView display the correct heading to my QTH just west of Boston? Is the Az item in WinWarbler's "QSO Info" panel populated with this heading?

I've seen this as well and have wondered if I had WinWarbler mis-configured.   I'm sure I've missed something.

I just performed Dave's suggested procedure and do not have AZ in the QSO info pane populated.

I've seen this as well and have wondered if I had WinWarbler mis-configured. I'm sure I've missed something.

I just performed Dave's suggested procedure and do not have AZ in the QSO info pane populated.

+ With DXView running, please do the following:

1. on the General tab of WinWarbler's Configuration window, check the "Log debugging info" box

2. terminate WinWarbler

3. start WinWarbler

4. enter my callsign in WinWarbler's QSO Info panel, and strike the Tab or Enter key

5. wait 10 seconds

6. on the General tab of WinWarbler's Configuration window, uncheck the "Log debugging info" box

7. attach the errorlog.txt file from your WinWarbler folder to an email message, and send the message to me via

I rebooted the pc and have [CC,DXK,DXV] showing in the WinWarbler top bar.   When I type AA6YQ  enter, DXV shows the short and long bearings   37   217   and WWarbler poulates the state MA but the bearing window is still blank.

Thanks for the errorlog files, Mark and Mike.

WinWarbler populates its "QSO Info" panel's Az item with your antenna's actual heading, not with a short-path or long-path heading computed from the location of your QTH and the location of your QSO partner's QTH. WinWarbler accomplishes this by obtaining the last heading that DXView sent to your rotator.

Are you using DXView to control your antenna rotator?

In the Heading panel on DXView's Main window, there's a grey box above the SP button and below the "short" box; what number is displayed in this grey box?

Dave, AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

I don't have DXView controlling my rotator - It's all done manually here, so that’s why I’m interested in seeing the AZ.

My DXView Heading panel shows 66.

+ DXView will show you the computed short-path and long-path headings, but no azimuth will be recorded with the QSO unless you manually enter it.

+ Note that if you click on a logged QSO's "Log Page Display" entry in DXKeeper, DXView will display the computed short-path and long-path headings to your QSO partner.
