Radio Name enhancement suggestion

Buck k4ia <K4IA@...>

I just noticed the option to have the Radio Name specified in Commander appended to the QTHId in the log.

What if I am using a radio that is not on the list - as in, a radio with no computer control? My Drake TR4 or a QRP rig for example.

I could create a user-defined field but I think it would make more sense to put the data where it belongs and have a way to name a radio other than those listed.

Suppose your computer-controlled transceiver is a K3, your QRP rig is an
KX3, and the "QTH ID" of the "my QTH" you've been using is Fredericksburg.
Then

1. in the "my QTH" you've been using

1a. change the "QTH ID" from Fredericksburg to Fredericksburg:K3

1b. set the Rig to "Elecraft K3"

2. create a new "my QTH"

2a. set the "QTH ID" to Fredericksburg:TR4

2b. set the Rig to "Drake TR4"

2c. specify the rest of the items to match those in your Fredericksburg:K3
"my QTH"

3. create a new "my QTH"

2a. set the "QTH ID" to Fredericksburg:KX3

2b. set the Rig to "Elecraft KX3"

2c. specify the rest of the items to match those your Fredericksburg:K3 "my
QTH"

4. In the "Log Settings" panel on the Configuration window's Log tab, make
sure the "Include radio name in QTH ID" box is not checked

5. When starting an operating session with one of your three transceivers,
open the "Log Settings" panel on the Configuration window's Log tab and
select the "default QTH ID" that matches the transceiver you are using.

6. If you log QSOs from other locations and/or with other radios, you can
define additional "my QTHs" as shown above in step 2.

Dave,

If the option noted below is selected, where would one see the result? How would one know it's working?

Dave,

If the option noted below is selected, where would one see the result?

One would see the result in the "myQTH" item of each logged QSO.

How would one know it's working?

By checking the result, as described above.
The "default QTH ID" in the "Log Settings" panel on the Configuration
window's Log tab specifies the "QTH ID" to which each newly-created QSO will
be initialized.
