Subject: [dxlab] Rtty no tx power output

Hi dave

A newby friend od5vg, newly licenced, asked me to help me set up dxlab for him, on an hp laptop and an icom 7300.

I did the complete setup smoothly. At the end i have 3 glitches, i ask you to help me solve:
1. On rtty, the computer is able to ptt the radio and transmit is lit. However no output power is showing on the external power meter. However i realized that while keyed, the mic pics up our vouces and transmits it, i.e. the power meter shows watts output when we speak, although rtty and lsb-data shows on the radio.

>>>If the radio is transmitting audio from a microphone instead of audio from a soundcard output, what must not be connected or configured properly?

$$ i am not sure what to answer. The soundcard?

2. Propagation prediction. When we double click on a station in sc, capture is populated with all the required data and also dxv. But predict display is blank. I click on sp or lp predict and nothing appears.

>>>On the Parameters tab of PropView's Main window, what parameters aren't specified?

$$ sfi, avail, take off,

3. Capture when duly populated, does send the dx station callsign to pf which shows on the callsign space above left in pf. But pf does not show qrz data on this callsign until i click on qrz tab in pf.

>>>How does Pathfinder know what search to use when it receives a callsign from DXKeeper?

$$ i am not sure. Is there a place i should specify qrz as the search engine?

Trying to log some contacts but if I put a call sign into call box and press lookup comes back call not found, but if I go look at the pathfinder page the call I am looking for is there but will search. Is there something wrong or has my system went nuts.

How have you configured the Callbook tab of DXKeeper's Configuration window?

That is a definite Insider Preview issue. Rolling back to a previous build fixed the problem on one PC, but *BRICKED* another one. So, make sure you have a backup image before rolling back.

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance with a problem I've seen with my DXLab Suite setup.

I'm missing the check boxes to choose options in the configuration section of the apps. The following is an example of what I get:
[cid:image001.png@...]

I'm running Window 10 Enterprise, Insider Preview Build 17035.rs_prerelease. Not sure when the issue started, but it was all there when I installed it some 5 months ago.
Has anyone seen this before, and if so, is there a fix for it?
I'm trying to avoid re-installing the suite.

That's almost certainly a defect in the Windows 10 pre-release you are running. Re-installing DXLab is unlikely to make a difference. Please report this behavior to Microsoft Windows Insider Support organization.

My fault I guess. I started again and made sure all was set as it should be and especially the Vox and Semi break. It works correctly now., Not sure if I had it that way before or if Power down and starting over cleared it but it is working this morning.

Thanks to all for the help.

Maybe it should but it does not. It does switch to transmit but does not switch back to receive. How would the TS know.

Your transceiver maintains a list of "characters received but not yet transmitted in CW"; it certainly knows when the last of
these characters has been fully transmitted in CW.

Likely a defect in TS870 code is my feeling.

I don't recall anyone here - or anywhere else - ever reporting a defect in the TS870's KY CAT command.

Thank you for your response Dave, now I understand the sort order of the printing. That'll make it easier to find the matching envelopes

DXKeeper prints QSL cards (or QSL labels) and envelopes (or address labels) in exactly the same order, so if you are careful to maintain the order of each printed "stack", the top items should always match. I'd still recommend printing an "address report" to double-check as you're inserting a card into an envelope.

Seems like DXKeeper has slowed down for me when doing a search for a callsign in the log by entering it in the "Filter" dialog and then hitting "Call". Each search is taking 5-6 seconds with the little blue spinning circle icon doing its thing. Then, when I clear the "Filter" dialog it takes the same amount of time to get back to the normal log display. Believe this is a recent change in performance. I have not made any changes to the computer DXKeeper runs on other than normal updates to Windows 10.

My log contains a little over 3300 QSOs. Am guessing that is not large by comparison to others and not the cause.

The computer is a reasonably high performance with i7 chipset and 16 gig of memory. In searching through the Yahoo group I found some suggestions from Dave about checking for a failing disk drive when things slow down. Have done that by checking the windows event logs and found nothing.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Using TS870 with CAT Keying the On Air light never turns off

Gilbert Baron W0MN

I tried that. It did not change anything. Without VOX the keying starts so something must be sending a command to switch to transmit. I still think there is a missing command to switch back to receive when no more characters to send. Not sure how transmitter would know that I am really done. Maybe I am just pausing. The problem is it assumes I want to pause forever. Even closing all DXLAB apps does nothing. The one and only way I can get it to switch to receive is to hit the Send button on the front of the TS870. I did not have to do that when using an RS232 port which used one of the lines to assert and take down PTT.

it to me.
It seems that perhaps WW is not sending the Switch to Receive command when
needed and that happens on both CW and PSK ! if I have
Xcvr Ctl App selected.

When WinWarbler's "CW Keying" panel is set to "Xcvr Ctrl App", WinWarbler
does not control RX-TX-RX switching: it doesn't know
exactly when the transceiver will start sending CW, or exactly when the
transceiver will finish. WinWarbler simply sends the text to
be transmitted to Commander, which in turn uses the KY command to send it to
your TS-870. Your TS-870 should switch from RX to TX
when it receives the first CW character to be transmitted, and switch from
TX to RX when it has not more CW characters to transmit.
