Fixing Broke State

Rod Greene

I can't determine what is wrong with this:

1. KL2A QSO in DXK shows broke because the State is set to "AK". Other Alaska stations QSOs have the same problem.
2. KH6ND state is AZ (not HI) for when I worked him yesterday in the NAQP and that's what he sent in the exchange.

Don't understand the Alaska stations showing broke when their prefix seems good. The KH6 is understandable because the prefix doesn't follow the state indicated. Is there an over ride I can set?

Thanks and 73, Rod/w7zrc

Thanks Dave...That's why I dropped my question here--if it were possible from the DXLab end, it probably would have already been done!

Re: Pathfinder "509 Too Many Requests" Importing Contest QSO's

I deleted the old entries and reimported the .adi file.  Today I had 5 errors.  I sent you an email to your QRZ email address with a .zip file containing:

  • screen shots of the popup errors
  • the files that I saved when the error occurred
  • Error logs for DXKeeper and Pathfinder
  • a screen shot of one of the imported entries that received the error showing that nothing was added from QRZ.com
  • a copy of my log file before I executed the import
  • a copy of the adi file I imported.
When the errors occur the extra fields in the log entry are not filled by from QRZ.

I found myself wishing for something during the NAQP-CW and I thought this would be as good a place as any to wish out loud.

I'm using a Flex 6600, and I can see Spot Collector spots on the panafall, but clicking on them doesn't put the callsign into N1MM. Or, I can choose to have N1MM telnet spots on the panafall but I give up the multi-cluster and award-chasing flexibility of Spot Collector.

I know there are DXKeeper to N1MM gateways. Would it be possible to get some sort of "Spot Collector to N1MM gateway" that would put spots from SC on the Flex panafall that could be inserted in N1MM's entry window?

+ I'm not aware of N1MM providing a means by which its entry window can be populated with a callsign, frequency, and mode. There's an "External UDP Broadcasts" section in

<https://n1mmwp.hamdocs.com/appendices/>

+ but no "UDP Messages Accepted" section.

+ The more general question of enabling SpotCollector to interoperate with N1MM has been raised in the past. This is largely a task that N1MM team members would have to implement, with my assistance; there's been no interest expressed in pursuing this.

In DxKeeper/QSL when I click "Add Requested" ONLY for LotW (NOT for eQSL) in the QSOs to upload to LotW, in the "QSL msg" field a message appears that I used once but that I DO NOT want is becoming a default one. I know that I can edit it, in the QSO and cancel it, before doing the upload, but I wish to cancel this message as a default.
I have not found **where** to intervene (it is for example not in the capture window).

+ the "Default QSL Message" is selected or specified on the Configuration window's Defaults tab.

I cannot follow your instructions exactly, I have to start DXview from Launcher. Then I have Launcher, DXKeeper and DXView in Task Manager's Apps. Closing it from the Task Bar it goes from Task Manager's Apps immediately and is not in the Background Processes either. Without further action DXLauncher also goes from the Task Managers Apps. Closing DXKeeper from the Task Bar takes a second or 2 leaving no DXLab progs in the Apps section. Closing Launcher from the task bar now brings DXView into Task Manager's Background Processes. Very odd.

If you're saying that with DXView not running, that terminating the DXLab Launcher via the Windows Task Bar causes DXView to begin running as a background process, then your Windows installation is broken. DXLab will not run correctly until Windows is made to work reliably.

I'll delete the log entries and repeat the process.  If it happens again, I'll collect the data you need.

I had my best day contesting today in the NAQP-CW and scored 161 Q's (not great but good for me).  When I tried to import them into DXKeeper, I kept getting a popup that wanted to save a file.

+ What was the exact text displayed in the popup?

+ Is there an errorlog.txt file present in you DXKeeper folder?

The files contained one line that said "509 Too Many Requests".

+ To what "files" are you referring?

It appears I was overloading QRZ.com. I finally closed Pathfinder to just get the Q's loaded but now I have a bunch of log entries with no information other than from the contest.  Is this a common error?  What is the best practice for importing contest logs?  Should I set up DXKeeper to log from N1MM+ in real time?  How do I get the CBA stuff loaded into about 130 Q's?

+ By agreement with the management of QRZ, Pathfinder limits the rate at which it queries QRZ.com via Pathfinder to one callsign every 4 seconds. I am not aware of any additional limits imposed by QRZ. No one in recent memory has reported any problems with this functionality.

+ Lets determine what's going on before considering alternatives.

Re: Unexpected "AutoHIde" Behavior

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

I'm starting to play with SC's "AutoHide" feature. When I use it while not using one of my SQL filters it works as described in the documentation. When I use it with one of my SQL filters in play, it filters out spot entries with notes containing words from my list as expected but those filtered spots do not display when I check "Display only hidden spot database entries" in the "AutoHide" dialog as they do when I'm not using an SQL filter. I have added the expression, "and (Hidden <> 'Y')" to the SQL filters as instructed in the documentation. I probably misread something but I can't figure out what it is. Any help would be appreciated!

+ Every Spot Database Entry has a field named Hidden. When a Spot Database Entry is created, it's Hidden field is set to 'N' unless you have the "AutoHide Filter" window's "Enable automatic hiding of spot database entries base on note content" option enabled and the spot from which the entry was created contains one of the specified "bad words" - in which case its Hidden field is set to 'Y'.

+ When the "AutoHide Filter" window's "Display only hidden spot database entries" option is disabled, SpotCollector's "built-in" filters - Call, DXCC, Freq, Tag - include this factor:

and (Hidden = 'N')

+ so that Spot Database Entries whose Hidden fields are set to 'Y' are not displayed when those filters are activated.

+ When the "AutoHide Filter" window's "Display only hidden spot database entries" option is enabled, SpotCollector's "built-in" filters - Call, DXCC, Freq, Tag - include this factor:

and (Hidden = 'Y')

+ so that only Spot Database Entries whose Hidden fields are set to 'Y' are displayed when those filters are activated.

+ When you filter the Log Page Display with an SQL expression, it's up to that SQL expression to hide (or not) Spot Database Entries based on the content of their Hidden fields. Thus when the Spot Database Display was last filtered by invoking an SQL filter, checking or unchecking the "Display only hidden spot database entries" box has no effect.

That was my understanding as well, Dave, but McAfee told me the files could not be recovered.

+ McAfee is hereby added to the "bury it in the desert while wearing gloves" category.

I have the log file backed up. Should I uninstall all DXLab software including Commander and reinstall everything?

+ No!

+ There is no need to make changes to any DXLab application other than DXKeeper.

+ On the Windows Control Panel, click the Programs section's "Uninstall a program" link. Windows will display a list of installed applications. Is DXKeeper present on this list?

+ Important note: if DXKeeper is on the list, don't direct Windows to uninstall it! Such a directive would fail because McAfee deleted the file containing the information Windows employs to perform the uninstallation.

+ The point of checking the list of installed applications is to determine whether McAfee directed Windows to uninstall DXKeeper before deleting it.

This is a clear demonstration of the advantage of image backup.

Note what Dave said here.

+ This is important because deleting an application's files makes it impossible for Windows to uninstall that application -- a prerequisite to being able to re-install it.

Unless McAfee actually did a true uninstall you are likely out of luck.

You could try something like revo uninstaller but it may even be too late for that.
