Dave, you might want to try dropping to an elevated command prompt and run:
SFC /SCANNOW

It's possible you have a corrupted Windows file and this will find and fix those.  I also had to back out of the 2004 upgrade on two different computers due to multiple problems and that is one thing I did to try to make sure everything was back to v1909 levels.

First on windows 10 with auto update off. A couple of days ago Commander does not connect at startup. I am using the multi radio tab with SATpc32, an IC-9700 and a Flex 6700. When I look at the config file the settings are all there but the names of the radios are missing. When I go to add the the radio names back in, the list is truncated - the radios I need along with others are missing. A restore from Launcher fixes that, I add the radio names and all is good until the next time I start the computer. I am on Commander 1462.

Clearly something has gotten corrupted, just not sure what.

+ If the list of supported radios is incomplete, you are likely starting an old version of Commander; check the version number in Commander's Main window's title bar.

The band map followed the radio closer, when tuning from the radio, and the radio and commander followed faster when clicking on the band map.
There was not much difference, the major advantage to me was that the bandmap worked independent of any logging software running, making the bandmap useful when running N1MM, WriteLog and any other software that needed to also talk to the radio at the same time.

+ Thanks.

+ Anyone contemplating the use of this configuration - Commander and another transceiver control applications simultaneously controlling the same transceiver through a hardware or software port multiplexor - should be aware that these are invalid configurations, meaning that support will not be provided.

+ Commander's Secondary CAT port and the transceiver emulation products sold by Tom VA2FSQ (e.g. Win4IcomSuite) are valid ways to enable another application or device to lead or follow your primary transceiver.

Well, that's three hours of my life I'll never get back. Was lucky enough to get right in to "Live Chat" on MS Help. The tech was friendly and courteous, and within an hour he had turned my PC into a brick.
Couldn't open any .exe files and couldn't even run the Run command.
Could only open shortcuts with URL links (not the browsers directly).
After two more hours of his experiments, I suggested replacing the Registry with a backup I had made Sunday. That worked, somewhat. I can now open all but the three DXLab files that were the original problem.

But I don't feel bad. The last thing he told me, right before I disconnected him, was that it would be "fixed by tomorrow". When asked how the "fix" would get to my PC, he told me "It's the Windows bug".
Perfectly clear!

Re: Confirming 6m grids for users not on LoTW

What you're suggesting does not do what I am looking for. First off, it's just a report, not a way to filter the log for queuing QSL labels for print.

Secondly, it includes grids that have already been confirmed via LoTW by other stations. If a grid has been confirmed via LoTW or paper card in the past then any log filter or report should not include that grid, even if there's a non-LoTW user in it that hasn't confirmed my QSO. I don't need that grid confirmed again.

The goal is to filter the log in such a way that the only QSOs displayed should be for 6m (only) grids not confirmed already via LoTW or paper card. That is the predominant search criteria.

If a grid has one or more unconfirmed QSOs, then I need to filter the display to show every station I've worked within that grid who does not use LoTW so I can create a label and send him/her a physical card. Do this for every unconfirmed zone. Eventually I will have sent physical cards to non-LOTW stations. Once I do that, I will need to filter the log again to include unconfirmed grids where I've worked LoTW-participating stations, so I can email them and see if maybe they busted my call or whatnot, or if I'm NIL, then mark those QSOs invalid in my log.

I use FFMA since it's a subset of all unconfirmed 6m grids, and it takes the band variable out of the equation. But in reality, I want to do this for all unconfirmed 6m grids, US or international.

Probably more a Windows problem, but asking here in case someone has encountered it before. This is likely the failed upgrade to Win 10 v. 2004.

After reverting my Windows 10 2004 to 1909, I have three DXLab apps that will not open. They are DXKeeper Spot Collector WinWabler

When I attempt to start any of those, a small window with the title "Windows Installer" opens showing a message "Preparing to install". The window remains in that state until the "Cancel" button is clicked, at which point the message says "Cancelling", but the window remains hour-glassed until stopped using "End Task". The Window gives no indication of what "Installer" it is running, and just allowing it to continue does not result in change of any kind.

All three apps do the same thing, regardless if they are started using the desktop shortcut or the app in the file folder. At the time this is happening, Task Manager shows the selected app actually running (ie- DXKeeper.exe (32 bit)), although the app never opens. Commander and DXView open as they should. I do not have PropView or PathFinder installed as I do not use them.

Do these apps sound like good candidates for removal and reinstall using the "Move to another PC" guidelines, or has someone run across this before and know of a fix?

+ I would take 2 steps before doing that:

1. reboot Windows into "Safe Mode with Networking", and then try running those three application; any change in behavior?

2. if there's no change in behavior after booting into "Safe Mode with Networking", engage Microsoft Support and ask them what's going on.

Re: FT891 User-defined controls

Ken,

Thank you so much. I got some that will be very useful. Two buttons that I could really use is to change the meter to different meters like PO/SWR etc. and the other to change the mode from SSB/CW/FM/AM etc. I was looking at the other Yaesu sliders and I just cannot wrap my head around what I would do for the 891.

I found creating User defined controls in my ICOM 7300 much easier for some reason.

Dave thank you for all you do it is truly appreciated. ( is there an easy way to upload all those text files in a batch instead of one by one) please let me know.

Re: DXKeeper and Field Day

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below

I have been using DXLab for approximately 8 months. As recommended by Dave, I have been turning one application on at a time as I learn how they all work.

I have now logged in over 500 QSOs in DxKeeper. I will be working this years Field Day from home. I have been appointed the "digital guy" working as a 1D station for our club.

My concern and question is in the logging of contacts during Field Day. With the growing number of QSOs I have already logged with normal day to day contact, how do I keep a separate log for Field Day? Or do I gather the Field Day contacts as I normally would and then seperate them after Field Day?

+ The decision to store your Field Day QSOs in a separate log depends on one question: will your Field Day QSOs "count" towards the awards you are pursuing?

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/MultipleLogFiles>

+ If the answer is "yes", then your Field Day QSOs should be stored in your existing log. You can distinguish them by specifying a Contest ID before logging your first Field Day QSO, and clearing that Contest ID after making your last Field Day QSO. See

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/ARRLFieldDay>

+ I suggest making a few test QSOs with "Contest Mode" enabled before Field Day so that you know what to expect.

How would I accomplish the seperation process?

+ Like this:

1. On the Configuration window's Log tab, note the pathname of your current log as specified in the "Log file" panel at the top.

2. In the "Log file" panel, click the New button; a "Create new log" window will appear: use it to specify the pathname of the log file that will record your Field Day QSOs

3. Log a few test QSOs to be sure things are working as expected; then delete these test QSOs

4. Log Field Day QSOs

5. On the Configuration window's Log tab, click the "Log file" panel's Select button; a "Select existing log" window will appear: use it to select the log file whose pathname you noted in step 1 above

Sorry to be a lid but I've looked and looked in the docs and can't find instructions for setting up the apps so that needed grids get the nice SpotCollector highlight font the way needed countries do. I DON'T use jtalert only the DXLab apps. Help anyone?

+ DXLab provides realtime award tracking for the ARRL's VUCC awards, the goal of which is to confirm grid squares on VHF and UHF bands. Support for the pursuit of grid squares on all bands (not just VHF and UHF) is limited to the ability to generate a progress report.

+ Step-by-step instructions for pursuing VUCC awards are here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/VUCCAwardTracking>

+ The DXKeeper reference documentation for pursuing VUCC awards is here:

<https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Progress.htm#Realtime%20Award%20Tracking%20for%20ARRL%20VUCC%20Awards>

+ When you enable real-time award tracking for VUCC in DXKeeper, SpotCollector will automatically highlight active stations with whom a confirmed QSOs would advance your progress towards your specified VUCC objectives.
