Re: Problem in WW 5.9.0
Dave AA6YQ
In WinWarbler 5.9.0, my goal was to make the explanatory popup windows that
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
appear when the mouse hovers over a macro button display the actual text that would be transmitted were the associated macro invoked -- including line breaks. Unfortunately, the standard explanatory popup mechanism ("tooltips") provided by the version of Visual Basic used to construct WinWarbler does not correctly display line breaks -- its displays all control characters as small square boxes. To overcome this, I implemented a new mechanism for use with macro buttons -- but this implementation was clearly problematic. I've emailed a new WinWarbler release to those of you reporting problems; please let me know how it goes. Thanks! 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Subject: [dxlab] Problem in WW 5.9.0 After installing WW 5.9.0 there was the following problem: The macro mouse-hoover facility let the multi-line window with the content of a macro pop up but quite often it was impossible to let it disappear again even with the mouse moved away within a very short time to a completely different position. The window, however, stayed open and covered a small part of Spotcollector I wanted to be fully displayed again (WW and SC use the same area of the monitor with major overlapping). The only way to get rid of the problem was to shut down WW and re-start WW again. After five of those events I gave up and re-installed 5.8.9 again. I don't know if somebody else can replicate the problem (Dave, as you may remember I cannot create any useful errorlogs for the next two weeks). 73 Juergen, DL8LE ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Several hams are using wal-mart e-machines in this category for ALE usage, etc. Have fun, Alan km4ba "July 2, 2008 (IDG News Service) Microsoft Corp. <http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=Microsoft+Corporation> has loosened the hardware restrictions that PC makers must adhere to in order to install Windows XP <http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=Microsoft+Windows+XP> on ultralow-cost PCs, according to documents seen by IDG News Service. While June 30 marked the last day <http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyId=89&articleId=9104878> for selling most new Windows XP licenses, Microsoft has made several exceptions for the older operating system, including its use on ultralow-cost laptops such as the Asus Eee PC <http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=ASUS+Eee+PC>, as well as on an emerging class of minidesktops. These devices are sometimes called "netbooks" or "nettops." Microsoft is offering Windows XP Home Edition to encourage PC makers to use that operating system instead of Linux on the low-cost machines, but it has placed restrictions on the hardware that can be offered. Under the new terms, outlined in the documents, PC makers must limit screen size to 14.1 in. and hard-drive capacity to 160GB. Ultralow-cost PCs with touch screens will also be eligible. Earlier terms set in April <http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9075062> did not allow touch screens at all and limited screen sizes to 10.2 in. and hard-drive capacity to 80GB. The processors are still limited to a single-core chip running at no more than 1 GHz, with memory limited to 1GB of RAM. Ultralow-cost PCs are an emerging class of products with limited system capabilities in the $250 to $500 range. Examples include the Asus Eee PC <http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9052520> and Microstar International's Wind <http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyName=mobile_devices&articleId=9100838>. They are designed for basic tasks such as surfing the Internet and sending e-mail, but not for more advanced tasks like video editing. The updated terms, especially the larger screen size, mean Windows XP can be used on machines that look more like standard low-cost laptops. But ultralow-cost PCs are not only defined by their size, and they remain a distinct product category due to their limited performance, said Roger Kay <http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=Roger+Kay>, founder and president of Endpoint Technologies Associates Inc. "You can have a low-cost PC that's not small," Kay said. The goal of the program is apparently to limit the hardware capabilities of such PCs so that they don't eat into the market for mainstream PCs running Windows Vista <http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=Microsoft+Windows+Vista>, something both Microsoft and PC vendors would want to avoid. As part of the new terms, Microsoft also added low-cost desktops to the list of products eligible for Windows XP Home, and it added Windows Vista Home Basic as a second operating system option. Microsoft declined to comment on the matter, saying it doesn't speak publicly about the details of its agreements with PC makers. Low-cost PC vendors may be pushing Microsoft to keep Windows XP available, Kay said. Linux is another option for ultralow-cost PCs, but is not yet a viable alternative, according to Kay. "I don't think Linux is going anywhere in the low-cost market," he said. "Linux doesn't really cut it when it comes to compatibility." The documents show that for developed markets, Microsoft charges $32 to install XP Home Edition on standard netbooks and $47 for netbooks with the larger screens. PC makers that meet certain requirements in Microsoft's Market Development Agreement can get a discount of as much as $10 on those prices, the documents show. There is a similar discount for systems sold in emerging markets, although the starting prices are lower, at $26 and $43, respectively."

The errorlog shows the Launcher is unable to access either http://www.dxlabsui te.com/ReleaseIn fo.txt or http://www.dxlabsui te.com/FullInfo. txt Something on your PC is preventing the Launcher from accessing the internet. Can you visit the above two URLs with Internet Explorer? I suggest that you temporarily disable your anti-virus, firewall, and other anti-malware software and then quickly click the Launcher's New? button to see if it can access the internet; then re-enable your protection. If this doesn't enable the Launcher to display the available versions, then some part of the TCP/IP stack on your PC is likely misconfigured or non-functional. 73, Dave, AA6YQ -----Original Message----- From: dxlab@yahoogroups. com [mailto:dxlab@ yahoogroups. com]On Behalf Of steven wendt Sent: Thursday, September 04, 2008 8:07 PM To: dxlab@yahoogroups. com Subject: RE: [dxlab] waterfall problem and unable to update (need help) on its way steve --- On Thu, 9/4/08, Dave AA6YQ <aa6yq@ambersoft. com> wrote: From: Dave AA6YQ <aa6yq@ambersoft. com> Subject: RE: [dxlab] waterfall problem and unable to update (need help) To: dxlab@yahoogroups. com Date: Thursday, September 4, 2008, 7:50 PM OK. I'm definitely convinced that Microsoft is convinced. However, I'm also
definitely convinced that I am not convinced at all. (Seems like a solution for a problem that did not exist - until they made one and called it "Vista.") ;<) 73 all! - 'GI From: dxlab@... Re: WW 5.9.0 Mouseover macro keys brings WW to front of other windows

Hi Dave,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
further testing, it is the mouse-over on the frame that surrounds the macro buttons that triggers bringing the WW window to the front. 73 de Laurie, VK3AMA
Moving mouse around the screen and if it passes over a WW macro key it will bring the WW main window to the front of all other windows (very annoying when using limited screen space and have multiple window overlaps). If Macro tooltips are turned off for macro buttons (good feature btw) this behaviour still persists.

Not seeing that problem here. The tooltip closes as soon as I move the mouse away from the macro button.

Problem in WW 5.9.0
dl8le
After installing WW 5.9.0 there was the following problem:
The macro mouse-hoover facility let the multi-line window with the content of a macro pop up but quite often it was impossible to let it disappear again even with the mouse moved away within a very short time to a completely different position. 73 Juergen, DL8LE
