Thanks for the input as always Dave.  I use User Defined 0 to keep a running total of my DXCC count.  I'm trying to return all log entries with this expression.  If I change 'LIKE' to '=' and put in a valid number like 345 instead of '*', I get a valid response.  However I cannot get the expression below to return all entries that have a value.  Is the '*' the wrong wild card?

APP_DXKeeper_USER_DEFINED_0 LIKE 'DXCC # *'

Thanks,

Re: Has anyone set up for FT8 using a FTDX-3000, Win4Yaesu, and DXLab?

Marv Stasak

I was able to get everything up and running very nicely. Tom, VA2FSQ, has a nice video on his Win4Yaesu website that walks you through it.  The key for me was getting Omnirig running. For Win4Yaesu, Omnirig is the link between WSJT-X and the radio as I understand it for FT8.  Win4Yaesu coordinates the flow of data from WSJT-X through Commander to DXKeeper. At least, that's the way I understand it.  It works and it's neat even if I don't like FT8.  I found myself forced to get into it , though, because of so many DXpeditions using it now.

There is no error log generated, and when I look in the reports folder two submission files have been created; a .csv file which opens perfectly with all the correct data and the .xls file which throws up the error message as above. There is also a folder containing four files; filelist.xml, sheet001.htm, stylesheet.css and tabstrip.htm. To the uneducated eye these appear to be correct.
Any ideas?

There comes a time in every young man's life when he has a "duh" moment.  That occurs to me often, especially with software.
The simple solution for my recurring DX Atlas error message was to simply UNINSTALL DX Atlas from my computer.  Done!  No more pop up error messages when I open up DX View.  I may spring for the paid $29 version in the future, but right now I have enough puzzles with the free stuff.

Well, yes I had gone through that list.  Then I clicked on the 'Mode' filter at the bottom of Spot Collector and I had not checked FT8.  That seemed to fix the display showing the WSJTX Network.

I'm not sure of those filter and how they get envoked.  I usually use the Need Filter and/or if I'm looking for a specific call sign, I'll enter the call and push the Call button.

+ The "Need filter" and "Call filter" are both General filters. The Mode filter -  like the Band, Continent, Origin, Age, LotW, and eQSL-AG filters - are Context filters. When you invoke a General filter, all of the Context filters are also applied. To learn how Spot Database filtering works in SpotCollector, see

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/spotcollector/Help/SpotDatabase.htm#Filtering%20the%20Spot%20Database

Have never used a sql expression, so I guess I could read up on that and attempt to use MODE='<WSJTXMODE>' filter.

+ SQL filters can replicate the General and Context filters, but are more typically used to implement more specific filtering, like "show me when FT8WW was QRV and decoded by my instance of WSJTX with an SNR greater than -10 db.

Thanks, there is a lot to learn in this hobby, isn't there?

+ Some of the capabilities provided by DXLab are available in other transceiver control and logging applications, but much of it -- like realtime award tracking, spot collection and analysis, and propagation analysis - is not. "Learning by stumbling around" doesn't work well for these unique capabilities, which is why I recommend scanning the reference documentation

First, have any of you done a one-man DXpedition to a remote island?

Second, have any of you looked at his QRZ.com web page or his web site to understand his circumstances and recommendations (requirements) on how to work him?

I have noted way to much criticism by people who are not aware of or understand his circumstances and why he has chosen his operating techniques.

Other comments on DX clusters are simply ignorant, disgusting, and obviously selfish.  None of them are in the spirit of Amateur Radio!

Good luck in working him!

I've been using Dxlabs suite for more years than I could remember, but thanks to Rich , VE3KI and Joe W4TV, I learned something new today. Never know you could right click in the log window on a callsign, that provides soooo many options

+ That functionality is described here:

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/ViewEditLog.htm#Right-clicking%20a%20Log%20Page%20Display%20entry

+ Whether you've been using DXLab for a day or a decade, if you've never scanned the reference documentation of each application you're using so that you're aware of all available capabilities, you could be unaware of useful functionality.

+ You can access your local copy of reference documentation via the Help buttons in each application. Online copies of the reference documentation are available via the "Online Reference Documentation" column of the table in

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/download.htm#Documentation

+ The Reference Documentation that Mike K9UW packages into "one PDF file per application" is particularly useful because it facilitates searching an application's reference documentation. These PDF files are available via the "Searchable & Printable English Reference Documentation" column of the table in

https://www.dxlabsuite.com/download.htm#Documentation

+ All of the above forms of the Reference Documentation are updated with each new DXLab application release.

Re: How to stop updates LOTW/RDA?

+ AA6YQ comments below
On a seperate system I do my work as qsl-manager for J88HF, J8/Pe1IGM and more.
I did install some databases like LOTW, but really don't need them for my work as manager.
But in launcher the ws: field is blocked (database updates) when updates are there, while I want to see in which database I'm working.

How to discard these messages, just delete the databases?

+ If you've directed DXView to install the eQSL, LoTW, and/or RDA databases, subsequently deleting a database will not stop the Launcher from notifying you when a new version is available.

+ To see which of your Workspaces is currently active, look on the Launcher's Workspaces window, which will appear when you click it's Configuration window's Workspaces button.

Interface shows SpotCollector Connected and WSJT-X connected.  I see WSJT-X Band Activity full of Stations, but I see no spots in SpotCollector for Network 'WSJTX'.  'Source' is not displayed in my configuration.

Any advice.  All config instructions are setup including UDP in WSJTX Settings.  All seems to be working fine including the ability to make FT8 Q's.

Why no spots?  Prefilter is wide open, no Discards.

Re: DX Atlas

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below
For what it's worth I find DX Atlas to be quite a valuable DX tool. I use it as the default map for DXview. It is very handy for visually finding when the gray zone occurs at any arbitrary point on the globe by advancing or turning back time. It provides a quick azimuth heading to DX as well as a view of the path in three different map projections. Plus it has a pretty handy list of DX prefixes. And that just scratches the surface. Noted defect aside, I would give it a second look. Did I hear someone say, "Better DXing through software?"

+ As reported here earlier by Gerald, there's a workaround for that defect: uninstall DX Atlas. I mostly use DX Atlas to plot worked and confirmed grid squares for VUCC, but the multiple projections are also occasionally useful.

+ You'll find an interactive list of entity prefixes in the Prefix selector on DXView's Main window. You can also select an entity name to determine its entity prefix.

Dave AA6YQ

+ AA6YQ comments below
I've also heard from others (no first hand experience yet) that we need to avoid two CAT control apps active for the same radio - they may try to compete with unpredictable results. So once you get things hooked up, use EITHER DXCommander OR Win4Yaesu, but not both.

+ A "dumb serial port multiplexer" that simply passes data to and from multiple CAT applications to a radio's CAT port will be unreliable. The classic example:

CAT application #1: select VFO A

CAT application #2: select VFO B

CAT applications #1: report current frequency

Radio: reports VFO B's frequency, but CAT application #1 misinterprets it as VFO B's frequency.

+ Win4Yaesu and Win4Icom are not dumb serial port multiplexors. They provide a software emulator for the radio being controlled. Each CAT application has its own "view" of the emulator, and the emulator is kept up to date by changes reported by the radio. Thus your DXLab Warranty will not be rescinded if you use these applications to enable Commander and another CAT application to control your transceiver.
