Re: Lotw QSO Sync

Kurt Cathcart

Thanks for all the replies. I still think I have a problem though. My
contacts have yet to sync since Oct 29th. If I go to the ARRL, I can
see all my QSOs there but yet they still show a U in DXK. Any more
suggestions?

When our grandchildren are here we use a baby monitor for its intended purpose - monitoring babies :-) These things (at least the one we have) are obviously very cheaply made and when plugged in to AC power it makes a very annoying and loud buzzing sound. It also has very poor off frequency interference rejection and picks up my key clicks when I'm on the air. It's the only device in the house with that problem.

I don't have audio spots for my county hunting spots, but the baby monitor quickly identifies the fact someone's on the air on the frequency the K3 is currently monitoring.

Only Question I have, Im not sure of is DXK Related.

When you do an upload and click on the upload LOTW it churns and then comes
back and says accepted, does that mean that DXKeeper has seen the TQ5 return
messages?

The "Upload to LotW" operation
1. exports the QSOs in the "QSL Queue" to a temporary ADIF file

2. directs TQSL to encrypt the temporary ADIF file created in step 1

3. uploads the encrypted file to LotW

If the upload succeeds, then the encrypted file is now in LotW's
"to-be-processed" queue; the QSOs in the encrypted file have been uploaded,
but not accepted, so DXKeeper sets their "LotW QSL Sent" items to 'U' (for
"Uploaded").

When you subsequently invoked the "Sync LotW QSOs" operation, DXKeeper
directs LotW to report all QSOs accepted since the last time you invoked
"Sync LotW QSOs". As LotW reports uploaded QSOs as accepted, "Sync LotW
QSOs" changes their "LotW QSL Sent" items from 'U' to 'Y' (meaning "Accepted
by LotW").

After the "Sync LotW QSOs" operation completes, click the LotW button in the
Filter panel at the bottom of the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab to filter the
Log Page Display to show all QSOs whose "LotW QSL Sent" items are still set
to 'U', meaning "uploaded but not yet accepted).

When LotW is overloaded, I suggest not invoking "Sync LotW QSOs" more often
than once every 4 hours. This function doesn't place a large load on LotW,

Latest from ARRL: "Due to a large number of radio amateurs uploading their
logs to Logbook of The World (LoTW) after last weekend's CQ Worldwide SSB
Contest, the ARRL's online QSL verification service is experiencing delays.
According to ARRL IT Manager Michael Keane, K1MK, there is about a *60 hour
wait* for the more than 10,000 logs in the queue to be processed. "Logs are
processed in the order in which they were received," he explained. "If you
have uploaded your log to LoTW, your log is currently queued for
processing. It has not been lost in the system. Uploading your log multiple
times will only further delay your log and those of others to be processed."

Re: LOTW Delays

DANNY DOUGLAS <n7dc@...>

Its odd all the rush about matches for LOTW/DXCC. Its just been a few short years since we waited years for a card to come in via buro, and most of them did come in that way. Two or three years between working the DX, and getting a card were somewhat normal, especially for countries in the third world. Then, for some reason, we heard from people complaining that they hadnt received a card, after some 3 or 4 months. Now, its instant panic if an LOTW upload doesnt result in instant matching, even minutes after a contest or expedition. We have been served with the reason, now its time to be reasonable and just wait a few days. Yes, the service has become a bit slower than what we have had, since they went online. But of course the reason is is IS successful and more or us are uploading to them.

It all stems from the fact of more and more use, beyond what the network can handle as quickly as we might wish. The solution is money! Build a baseball field and they will come, acorrding to the movie. Same with communications. The original 64K memories in home computers soon showed that with them quickly filled up, and needed expansion. Then the 250 meg hard drives, which we all said "man who will ever need that much?"

Well, we know what happned with that. My former employer had worldwide 75 baud circuits, than ran hours in order to get traffic thru, in one days time. Then we went to two 75 baud circuits, and suddenly it took the same time to deliver messages. Not because something slowed it down, but because the customer not could depend on delivery of twice the info in the same time. Then we went to 96K baud circuits, first one then two, and no matter how fast we got, they filled it up. Suddenly everything was "so important" it needed to be there NOW.

The same thing is happening with our QSL cards. Advice: Slow down and enjoy working the DX, let the network service our needs as it can. I, for one, do NOT want to pay more for the service. My first DXCC was cards all received by buro, and my yearly ARRL membership paid for it all. Then they started charging, and now we pay not only membership, but additional fees for certificates, checking cards, blah blah blah.

OK back to looking for TU2T on 12.

LotW is clearly a relevant topic, but after watching the discussion on the ARRL-LotW Yahoo group go negative despite what I'm sure were best intentions all around, I suggest that we give the "LotW throughput and capacity" issue a wide berth. I'm not aware of anything involving DXLab that could be done to mitigate it.

Dealing with the impact of this issue -- checking status, or re-uploading unaccepted QSOs -- certainly remains "in bounds".

Re: LOTW Delays

Fred Molesworth

In this McDonalds world of gotta have what I want in the next 30 seconds, we need to keep in mind that the alternatives to LOTW take months or even years to complete.

I see these delays as a good sign, in a strange sort of way, in that LOTW is gaining in popularity, and overall we'll have many more of our confirmations much more quickly and cheaply than in years past.

Perhaps they need to increase their overall capacity, but in the short run an automated email letting you know that your submission has been queued would serve to ease lots of anxiety.
