Re: urlmon.dll & IE9 issue FIXED!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately the “fixer” will NOT fix the defective urlmon.dll created by IE9 on a WIN-7 system which was an upgrade from Vista to WIN-7 without doing a clean install. Microsoft Support walked me through ALL the fixes and NOTHING worked except the complete clean (destructive reformat) install.

Dave,
Your symptoms and instructions look good to me. As for preventing
Windows from installing IE9 updates in the future I think you have it
right, it's just a matter of directing the Update utility to hide that
particular update. I did that in one other case where the Update utility
wanted to insall an optional update for the AMD video board in my shack
desktop machine. Installing that caused me no end of problems so I
backed it out and instructed Windows not to show that update again. Note
that this is most easily accomplished if you configure updates not to
automatically install but rather to just notify you of updates and let
you choose when or if to install them. I do this anyway because I don't
want my machines rebooted in the middle of the night when my scheduled
backups are running.

Re: Something strange just happened

Phil Cooper <pcooper@...>

Hi Dave,

Well, I am not sure quite what I did, other than restart SC after upgrading
the LoTW database.
However, I MUST have done something!
The only thing I know I did do a day or so ago, was to UPDATE the workspaces
because I have upgraded several DXLab apps over the past few weeks and had
not done the update.
Maybe I should have created a new workspace?

You said:
If you used the Launcher to save SpotCollector's Registry entries to
a file, or if you used the Launcher to create a Workspace (which is just a
folder containing files of Registry entries - one for each DXLab
application), then you can restore those settings from the file of
SpotCollector Registry entries by
1. terminating SpotCollector
2. directing the Launcher to load SpotCollector's Registry settings from the
file
3. starting SpotCollector
=============end=================

OK, I have "workspaces" set, so I just tried activating that.
The result is the same.
BUT.... I now see that many of the fields are there, but hidden! If I put
the cursor close to the left hand edge of the last column header, it shows a
vertical line with a right-arrow, and if I then drag the column, it opens up
to reveal one missing column.
I can do that for each "missing" column, but the display keeps reverting
back to what it was.
Also, I looked at the Spot Database Display tab in CONFIG, and only the
fields actually shown are mentioned in the Layout Panel.

Presumably, I now need to "restore" these fields using that panel, and
create each one anew?
Is that right?

a) What does workspace do and
A workspace is a file backup of all the DXLab registry settings which
include your option settings and window positions etc. If you use
different screen layouts or options for different situations you can
create multiple Workspaces and activate them as needed.

b) How do I remove it so launcher doesn't see it any longer if I decide
I don't want it.
You can remove the Workspace file but doing so has no affect on the
Windows registry. The last used settings remain in the registry and if
they were removed your entire setup would be lost. So the answer is it
can't be removed and there is absolutely no reason not to want it. If
you don't use multiple Workspaces or never want to restore lost settings
there is no need to worry about it.

Hi all,

Hmmmm. Not sure whether I have done something, but I just closed SC to
download the new LoTW database, and when I re-started SC, most of the Spot
Database Display has gone missing!
I now have Callsign, Frequency, Last time, First time, Notes, and a couple
of other fields, but none of the usual fields that are present.

Looking through the help files, I can't see any reference to a basic display
list, or to a txt file that will restore it back to the more usual display.

What might I have done to the display and how can I correct it?
Any ideas?

The layout of the Spot Database Display -- which columns are included,
the width and alignment of each column, and its caption -- is stored in the
Windows Registry. It sounds like some of your Registry entries were either
deleted or corrupted.

If you used the Launcher to save SpotCollector's Registry entries to a
file, or if you used the Launcher to create a Workspace (which is just a
folder containing files of Registry entries - one for each DXLab
application), then you can restore those settings from the file of
SpotCollector Registry entries by

1. terminating SpotCollector

2. directing the Launcher to load SpotCollector's Registry settings from the
file

3. starting SpotCollector

Otherwise, you'll have to restore the missing columns by using the Layout
panel on the Configuration window's "Spot Database Display" tab.

I've always had that message but the client does eventually connect. In my case it is because my router cannot handle the IDENT packets that the IRC protocol uses to establish communication. Your router may have a setting to allow them, many routers do need this configuration option set for IRC. Either way the link should establish since the CQDX IRC server eventually retries without requiring an IDENT response.

I normally have SC on the secondary monitor.
As far as I can see, all the SC mouseovers appear on the 'Primary'
monitor and sometimes blend into the color of what I have positioned at
the upper left corner.

Is this correct or can I reposition the mouseovers?

That's a defect in the commercial control (TrueDBGrid Pro) used to
implement both SpotCollector's Spot Database Display and DXKeeper's

Upgrades of this control have been available for years, but I have been
reluctant to try them for fear of leaping from the frying pan to the fire.
