where is the Congo?
DANNY DOUGLAS <n7dc@...>
According to my SpotCollector display, and DXView info, the Republic of the Congo is at
196 degrees from me???????? Its either moved or something is jammed up in the data base. Looking at my flat trajoctory wall map, and homemade drawn lines, its sits just short of 90 degrees from here. Its alway been much more accurate that that, as have clicked on spots from there many times in the past. Clicking on other present spots, and observing the headings, they all appear to retain their accuracy, and my map comes mighty close to each of them, so it appears the Congo is the only "moved" country. I dont remember having a recent download on DXCC, or other entity data bases, so its possilbe something did get mess up in one of the data bases, but dont know which one. Install problems - old system files
chuck allen
Hello folks.
I tried to install DX-LAB on my older pc that uses Windows XP Home. During the install I get an error message stating the 'system files are too old' and prompting me if I want the program to update them so the install will work. I click YES and that appears to occur and then I'm asked to reboot the PC. So I reboot and try to install DX-LAB again and the same thing happens (again and again and etc. So is there a solution to this - what am I missing? thanks for any help. chuck AF4XK

Configure date on QSL cards and QRZ lookup
mattmont04 <mattmont@...>
Can I configure a date to print in a particular format on the QSL cards that DXKeeper prints? For example, when I preview the cards I want to print, the date appears as: "dd-mm-yy." Is there a way to configure the date to print "dd-mm-yyyy" or "dd-mmm-yyyy"?
Also, I am having issues using the QRZ online lookup. When I put my callsign and password in the callbook tab and performed a search, I received an error message: "Callbook error: a subscription is required to access the complete record." I know I can access callsign information without being signed in to QRZ; can I still look up callsigns in the same way in DXKeeper? Thank you, Matthew

Re: remote connection sound issue
Richard B Drake
Yes, but I use Skype to do it. Remote desktop will not convey sound from an external device (microphone/radio) to a local computer. I suspect it's more of a patent/copyright issue than a technical one. But, in any case Skype is free for computer to computer communications and works well.

remote connection sound issue
Bob AD5VJ
I am setting up a remote connection to my main computer from my notebook.
I can play sound from the remote computer when using windows media player, so I know the sound is working over the remote connection. But when I go into dxlabs and select rtty or psk it tells me that it cannot open the soundcard. I went into the settings to look for a RDP soundcard option but don't see one. Has anyone been able to successfully remote to WW with sound? Everything else works great remotely. 73, Bob AD5VJ

QUERY re: QSL CONFIG/LoTW
Victor Culver
Good afternoon, all. Here's one of those tricky questions, the answer to which, I suspect, depends on your overall orientation to the world in general and to your fellow man in particular.
Is it better to 'tick' the radio button under Handling of "LoTW QSL Detail Inconsistencies" across from "Overwrite log data with LoTW data" or the one across from "Preserve Log Data, Ignore LoTW Data?" The option to Display a Dialog box and let the Operator Choose" doesn't seem to make a lot of sense here, as the 'Operator' most likely wouldn't know which data is 'better' any more than the program itself does. Objective: most accurate locations for WAS type awards. I'm assuming this doesn't really matter all that much until I start running out of DX entities (sooner than I like to think!) and starting to collect WAJA, DOK, WAB, WAE, and CANADA awards. I am presently using the 'Preserve the Log Data' option -- as in contests, etc. I assume the operator knows where he is at the time -- although this is perhaps an optimistic assessment of the situation. I tend to suspect that LoTW data, once entered into whatever program, doesn't get changed all that much -- probably never for portable/short-term operations. I could be wrong. What is the generally accepted practice for this aspect of program configuration, Please? Thanks, es Happy Tuesday. Vic, W4VIC

DXKeeper 8.5.8 is availabl
Dave AA6YQ
This release
- with "QSL Via" set to eQSL.cc, updates the "eQSL.cc operation" panel's "QTH Nickname" to reflect changes made to the nickname via the "QSL Config" window's eQSL tab (tnx to Rich W3ZJ) - improves the error message that reports a field that is too long when adding an entry to the QSL Queue by including the QSO's callsign and start date and time (tnx to Dave G4MUL) - when updating real-time award tracking for a QSO whose QSO Begin date and time are invalid, marks the QSO as broken rather than generating an errorlog.txt file entry - when performing a DXCC database lookup while importing a QSO, fills in the imported QSO's primary administrative subdivision if it's not specified in the imported QSO but can be unambiguously determined from the imported callsign (tnx to Rich VE3KI) - updates the DefaultModes.txt file that specifies what modes "count" towards ARRL and CQ awards (tnx to Barry ZS2EZ) **** GTOR, JT44, FSK441,ROS, WINMOR, and WSPR count towards the DXCC_RTTY and WAZ_Digital awards **** SSTV counts toward the DXCC_Phone award **** any mode that that counts towards the WAZ_RTTY or WAZ_Digital awards also counts towards the WPX_Digital award - responds to the mouse cursor appearing in the Freq RX item on the Capture window or on the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab by selecting the contents of the Freq RX item - enables Contest-mode to be enabled or disabled from the Capture window (tnx to Joe W4TV) - updates the CaptureItems, htm, Configuration.htm, Contesting.htm, Import.htm, LogNewCapture.htm, and QSLConfiguration.htm documentation files. A special thanks to Barry ZS2EZ for interviewing ARRL DXCC desk personnel and several CQ Award Managers to provide the information used to update the DefaultModes.txt file. Note: if you have created a personalized Modes.txt file in DXKeeper's Databases folder, updating it to reflect the above changes made to DefaultModes.txt is your responsibility DXKeeper 8.5.8 is available via the DXLab Launcher and via <http://www.dxlabsuite.com/download.htm> 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Thanks for the reply. My problem was that I was never asked to update the station_data file in C:\Documents and Settings, so I didn't know to do it. Once I copied the file from the old computer, everything is where it should be. Thanks for the help! And thanks to everyone who had some suggestions, too. Many thanks for the infos but it's very important to know that I create only the database for DXView from the list edited by Robert HB9BZA. Robert warns that this list is extremely valuable an as some operators help him to add calls in te list on the contrary those who wish to remove their calls are welcome: see the "How to help" at http://www.hb9bza.net/lotw/index.html The problem exists because ARRL do not publish the LoTW members list. 73, Renzo, I6KZR
