I hope there is a way to solve or work around this problem.

SpotCollector sound when compacting, pruning or trimming Spot Database

Tom LeClerc

I think I have narrowed it down to when SpotCollector trims or prunes the database but the sound is like emptying the trash (or maybe flushing a toilet).

I have searched the config for some way to turn it off but no luck.  Can someone point me to the config item to silence that?  I let spotcollector run nearly all the time and I hear it every 20 or 30 minutes...

Thanks!

My apology,  That link will not resolve.

This one will

Re: World Map and Google Earth View possible adds?

Dave,

Regarding switching color between red and yellow.
A way of doing it is to switch between a red balloon and the same yellow balloon shape here

http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/paddle

Re: World Map and Google Earth View possible adds?

Dave,

Also, thank you for the reference to the existing kml file.

Re: World Map and Google Earth View possible adds?

OK, I understand that the color and shape are controlled by a prebuilt graphic in.png format.

If that is true, then, would it be possible to offer the red png as one choice, and, a yellow png pointer with any shape, it would not matter to (most folks).

This choice would give a lighter (yellow) shape on top of the darker green of google earth surface and more color contrast.

note, this is not a critical feature request.   I can see OK now on my monitor, espcially if I raise the monitor contrast.

Thank you for your kind response.

Dave,

Thanks for the quick reply….

Virus scans and firewall have been check and everything is on a “safe” list.

Have also un-installed and re-installed both DX lab and WSJT-X

so it this is a dupe I apologize...

+ All questions are welcome, no matter how many times they may already have been asked and answered.

Anyway, I'm running WSJT-x V2.5.4 and Spot Collector 9.0.8
Spot collector is set to clear data on start-up; and to prune basically every hour. It is downloading from WSJT-x only.
When i log a QSO in WSJT-X it downloads to DX Keeper in approx 3 to 5 seconds (great!) however in an additional 3 to 10 seconds
I get a pop-up box titled "Spot Collector - WSJT-X Interoperation". and the box tells me...
'Unable to log QSO with (call sign) on (meters) in (mode). DX Keeper did not execute the log directive within 15 seconds,
If DX Leeper is executing another function wait for that function to complete and try logging again"
At which point I just clear the box by X-ing out and I continue on with life.

+ What sort of anti-malware are you running? Have you configured it to consider each of your DXLab applications to be safe?

I noticed that the RDA list in DXKeeper is missing the following Primary and all the Secondary associated with it.

Republic of Crimea (RK) UA6K

(Valid since 21.03.2014)

Is this an oversight or a conscious action?

+ Conscious action. ARRL awards do not recognize the annexation of Crimea; neither does DXLab.

How does one log Primary and Secondary for QSOs with this area?

+ One doesn't.

While this does not seem to be causing a problem (the QSO is getting logged to DX Keeper, which is the goal) it is an error msg, and
I dont understand why I am receiving it or how to correct it.

Any suggestions?

1. Once world map launches with monitor resolution set to 100% (to enable me to maximize the space on the monitor for all applications), I wonder if it would be possible to (just) enlarge worldmap dynamically or with a pre-setting that does not alter the entire display resolution for better viewing?

+ You can zoom and pan within the Google Earth window using the controls it provides in the upper-right corner of its Main window.

2. For google earth would it be possible, like in world map, to set the color of the pin for the QSO set?

+ If you examine the KML generated for a logged station, you will find this:

<Style>
<IconStyle>
<scale>1</scale>
<Icon>
<href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal4/icon50.png</href>
</Icon>
</IconStyle>
</Style>

+ If you use your web browser to navigate to that URL, you will see a black star on a red background. I'm not aware of a way to change the coloring of the background without specifying a different URL - but if you find a way, please let me know.

In SpotCollector, config tab Spot Sources, in the WSJT-X panel, I have the Enable box checked.  I believe I had to do that to get logging to happen.  Give it a try.

Re: Logging JTDX into DXKeeper

Knut - I spent some time in the past two weeks testing JTDX and I use DXLab for logging.  While I found many other unacceptable behaviors in JTDX, the logging with DXLab worked just fine and made dozens of contacts with JTDX on FT8 and they all logged properly.  I don't know what might be different between our two systems that accounts for the difference.

+ JTDX does not support the programmatic interfaces required to interoperate with DXLab.

+ JTDX is a hostile fork of WSJT-X, meaning that its developers started with the WSJT-X source code and then made changes rejected by the WSJT-X development team. Bill G4WJS (now SK) stated many times that this situation adversely impacts the productivity of the  WSJT-X development effort.  If you want more open source amateur radio software -- like MMTTY, WSJT-X, and TQSL -- avoid hostile forks!

+ If you are an aspiring open source developer, joining an existing open source project is a great way to get started. But if you subsequently disagree with the direction the project is heading, don't take its source code in a different direction without permission; start your own project from scratch.
